What do we do in summer?

Good question at the end of the Everton match thread.

For me we cocked up big time not sorting the defence last time around, we need a new one...

Lose some fringe players, add quality in depth with maybe a marquee signing and aim for Europe whether it's league position or cup run.

Fairly obvious that the owners are ambitious so we are unlikely to fall into the mediocre mid table no hopers like Southampton, Stoke or WBA.

I'd say Everton are still a pretty ambitious side and depending on the Lukaku and Barkley situation, can see them challenge more for top 4 next season.

Sign a young, top class centre back. Maybe a young right back too for the future.

I know everyone will want 4/5 new players but not sure we need them. We've got a title winning squad with great character and togetherness. Unless we're planning on shifting a few we can't bring too many in. Several players getting no game time already, with a busier schedule.

Get new manager

Sign some quality, especially  midfield and back

Give the players a summer break instead of dragging them all over the world to get beaten lots of times

Try to finish top half (after the summer)

Don't need to make loads of changes, quality over quantity. Look at the likes of Sigurdsson, Trippier, Keane (although everyone will want him), Pickford (if Kasper goes), Gibson, Maguire. Can lose quite a few of the fringe players but not wholesale changes

No way change to possession football as we'll just end up as a poor imitation of the top sides. Pressing/Counter attacking should be the style we look to keep for the next few years at least.

We need a right back to challenge Simpson, a decent centre back (maybe another if Benalouane leaves), another CM if Mendy leaves (hopefully), should also be looking at a forward as Ulloa will probably be off.

Somel players need to be moved on. Ulloa, Wasilewski etc. Our last couple of Windows have been shocking. I dont k ow what were gonna do with Musa, Mendy and Benny.

We also need a CM yo challenge Drinkwater. I'm getting fed up with his displays right now.

Sign a replacement for Okazaki to add some creativity and skill to the side, preferably Gylfi Sigurdsson although he'll probably have better offers than us.

We need a rightback, Amartey clearly isn't one and it'd be nice to have a more attacking option than Simpson (although he remains first choice).

One or two CBs, players like Mawson, Gibson or Maguire who are relatively young, comfortable with the ball, British and have experience of playing in the prem.

Replace players that leave, Riyad'll go so we'll need a pacey, creative hard worker. I'm not sure we'd be able to sign Nicola Sansone but he'd be great.

Try and flog Musa, Mendy and Slimani if we can recoup a similar fee to what we paid however I'm willing to give them all another chance.

Integrate Lawrence, James and Barnes into the squad after a proper pre-season.

A big question!

Firstly the owners have to decide whether to keep Shakespeare as manager.

That might seem like an easy "yes of course they should" answer to most, but the owners may want to have a more high profile manager, who may have more pulling power, in the transfer market, and who they may feel has a better chance of taking us up to another level.

Then of course there is which players to offload and player recruitment, which last summer was appalling.

There probably wont be, but in my opinion, questions should also be asked of Rudkin.

Go on the piss for two months if we win the CL!?!  On a more serious note then as much as it depends on the managerial scenario re Shakespeare and the owners, then let's hope the team have a proper pre season this time and come back hungrier than ever in August rather than hung over and bedraggled like they were for the first few months of this rollercoaster of a season!

1) Give Shakespeare the gig full time

2) Re-establish the things that have eroded over the last 6-12 months - sports science, psychologists, chicken burgers etc

3) Sort the scouting system out

4) Bin the dross - king, amartay, musa, mendey

5) Sell slim for £67m to a chinease team

6) Sign a new RB, CB, CM and striker

7) Announce some sort of we will/we wont plan on stadium expansion

Can't see anything on there that I disagree with
