Atletico H Post Match 1-1 (1-2) on aggregate

Recommended Posts

Incredible performance by our boys tonight. Simply outstanding from everyone in a blue shirt. Chillwell...take a bow . Unbeaten at home in this competition. In August my dream was to win one match but they excelled beyond all expectation. We lost the tie but won the soul and heart of our country..

One that also has a help in hand from the ref... which makes a big impact on the match

There was nothing wrong with their goal this game. They'd have still won on away goals.

Why didn't Shakespeare go for it and bring on Gray for Morgan. What was the point of bringing Amartey on when we needed goals?

Not losing was maybe in his mind.We drew this match but it feels so much like a win. Fantastic effort all around.

Nothing wrong with that. We pasted them second half and bar a couple of last ditch blocks we'd have had those goals.

We need to keep playing that formation, we'd blow teams away.

Let's play that formation against Arsenal see what happens.

Just not good enough at the back when it matters. They had one opportunity and took it. We had several and didn't take them. Fuchs was ball watching for the goal (copy of Sevilla away goal) and we got punished.

Effort was there but ultimately quality wasn't.

They had every luck of the ball and bounce but can see why they're a top team, they no how to manage games at this level.

Ref once again gave every fifty to them.

Ulloa didn't win enough in the air and although Chilwell did well, his crosses and last ball were not great, all crosses St shoulder height.

If only one of those opportunities after we scored went in. Might have been so different.

Motm Simpson for me. Didn't put a foot wrong and intercepted the ball so many times

my ONLY criticism of Shakey. Had to have Gray on when we needed 2 goals. Chilwell could have switched to LCB with Fuchs moving to central CB.

Oh well. We played our hearts out and so proud of them all

Tbf, if we'd come into this 0-0 it might have been a different story. Can only point to some phenomenal goal saving blocks from them as to why we're not through though. We had enough chances that second half and against most teams we'd have won by a couple.

A mention for Ben chilwell who was superb

No doubt he was good, but it did help he was playing in a space Athletico vacated... and the small frustration is the amount of times he had the ball in promising positions but didn't deliver a telling ball.

But he's young and learning the game, so it'd be cruel to criticise too much - more hoping its something coaches spot and work on with him.

Heads held high tonight.

No team in England can put us down after that, showed the rest of the league how to do Champions League football let's just hope they had the good grace to take down notes for next season.

We had to play  how we did in the 1st half, trying to play calm and not fall on the knife....

They did make us proud, we were excellent.. Athletico has the away side brilliant, we can learn from them.

2 great  blocks from their CBs ....the small difference. Credit where credits due Madrid a tick a notch better

than us...

Shakespeare  tactically tried, his 2nd half throw of the dice..marvellous.

We made the CL 2017 quarter finals, despite what our own UK pundits thought.

How many chances did Other millionaire teams have...

Well done Athletico,  Leicester thanks for the journey you made us proud...:chant::scarf:

Proud of the lads. Playing like equals with great Atletico Madrid, let that sink in. Everyone in the world could clearly see Leicester were in Champions League quarter-finals on merit not by some a stroke of luck. Compare our lads tonights performance to Bayern making Arsenal their ***** 10-2 on aggregate. Leicester deserves this.. And more! :scarf:   COYL! Onwards and upwards!

The difference was that the side we had last year, apart from Ndidi, wasn't quite good enough. We had hoped that the likes of Slimani, Musa and Mendy would give us that quality that would enable us to make a mark in the Champions League, but that was not to be. £50m+ spent on these three, but no impact whatsoever.

How you can criticise Ulloa who won everything, held the ball up incredibly well and effectively changed the game for us, I will never know.

Chillwell looks like the nee Schlupp, fast, never stops running, but final product needs a bit of fine tuning. He was immense tonight though. Hands off to lad for giving it his all.
