When you've got such a small sample size, not really.

On our part maybe. But add up the odds:

1/7 for this one

1/63 for 1997

1/15 for 1961

thats odds of 6615:1

No shame in going out to a team like that. We gave it out all and I'm so proud of the players.

Lets hope to meet again......I do not believe for one minute the owners have lost their ambition for LCFC

Chilwell became a 1st teamer tonight...

Agree, but where? Left back? Fuchs has been fine lately. So at left wing? Drop Albrighton or move him to right wing and drop Mahrez?

So, so proud of the lads. If we can keep the core squad together and make some good signings over the summer. We have a very good chance of getting back in Europe again. Europa league champions in 2 years :)

Stevie G just called Ulloa  "a lawyer" lol

Rio, not to be outdone, refers to James Vardy. lol

Just not good enough at the back when it matters. They had one opportunity and took it. We had several and didn't take them. Fuchs was ball watching for the goal (copy of Sevilla away goal) and we got punished.

That goal is probably a result of high level coaching from Athletico at identifying a weakness in a defensive setup.

Our defensive strategy with crosses is for the full back to mark the far post in line with the centre half. Saul's run is timed to perfection, because he finds the point where Albrighton would look to pass him on to Fuchs before the true shape of the cross is seen and ends up in the little pocket of space to meet the ball where neither defender is in position to challenge.

Of course this isn't all down to Simeone's genius, given Sevilla scored an identical goal too, but it is good coaching.

The difference was that the side we had last year, apart from Ndidi, wasn't quite good enough. We had hoped that the likes of Slimani, Musa and Mendy would give us that quality that would enable us to make a mark in the Champions League, but that was not to be. £50m+ spent on these three, but no impact whatsoever.

2 of those were injured.

Few things though

Don't need to stop the game unless it's a head injury

Time wasting is punishable by a yellow card

No added time for the first half and only 4 for the second half?!

When 2 of those are injured it is a bit difficult to make difference don't you think?

What impact did they have in the Champions League when they were fit?

We got to the quarter finals.

A mention for Ben chilwell who was superb

No he wasnt. He got forward well enough, as there was nothing to lose..we had to go for it...but his final ball was piss poor too often. I'm hoping he gets better than this..and I think he will

I loved that Chilwell was so hyper and full of adrenalin that in one 5 second spell he tried to take himself on, Cruyff turn nobody, fall over, tackle on the floor, get up then casually spray a pass....love him!!

Brilliant performance.

Why didn't Shakespeare go for it and bring on Gray for Morgan. What was the point of bringing Amartey on when we needed goals?

I did think that but to be fair, pace didn't really threaten Athletico. He possibly thought the extra aerial threat of Amartey was better than Gray
