It's not as if he had a strop with anyone at the club and from this requested a transfer request (?).

On record as stating 42m to Chelsea some time ago. He must have an extra week or so off after international duty early June?

Wymsey Posted 30 June 2017 Posted 30 June 2017 Actually think now, with Arsenal set to sign Lacazette for a club-record fee, that they won't be willing to pay more than £40m for Mahrez. Unless Sanchez goes for around the same fee, can't see them offering as much imo. So wouldn't be surprised, if that transfer goes through, if Mahrez stays now (unless other lucrative teams with big budgets like PSG tempt the club with a decent offer).

Don't see the connection between lacazette and mahrez ??? arsenal have plenty of money - they just don't like spending too much on one player

I think I read somewhere that they had about £150m to spend this summer so it's feasible they could get both (especially if Alexis goes). Arsene likes to low ball teams for the very top proven players so I'm doubtful that he'll match our valuation of Riyad. Just got to hope we stick to our guns

Sure Mahrez is probably our most successful player in recent times, but we were in the Round of 16 in the last world cup in a very good game versus Germany whilst without Mahrez (well he was a sub/reserve). England didn't even make it out of the group stage. Also, Mahrez is not our most successful player of all time or our only world class player by any means, Rabah Madjer is. His goal that won the 1987 European Cup: Just because your culture is limited to Europe does not mean that our national team is unknown. Also while i wouldn't want him benched, I don't think we would collapse without him. We have a lot of right wingers (notably feghouli and ghezzal) as the case with Leicester (Gray and Tom Lawrence) Look at Messi for example, arguably the best player yet he doesn't do anything with Argentina. One player's capacity is not the most important aspect of a football team. There's a lot in this post that is commendable and would prove a lesson to the condescending nature of other posters who tend to disregard (maybe due to cultural knowledge also (whatever that means)) the achievements of this club also. And to whom my response was aimed at.

Good news for us? I'm sure Cuadrado would cost similar to Lemar. Don't know why they bother.

marbles Posted 30 June 2017 Posted 30 June 2017 If Mahrez isnt picked up by anyone, will it have a negative affect on him ? Or will we see the Mahrez of 15/16 return with hopes of attracting clubs again ?

He's made his bed by saying he want's away and pretty much said he's better than us and should be playing at a higher level. In hindsight he should have just STFU instead of putting that statement out. If he does stay and is moody and smacked arse about it, then Shakey should drop him and make him train with the U21's. But I'd like to think Mahrez would be man enough to dust himself down, be professional and still give it 100% if he is still here. Personally I hope he stays and reproduces his form of 15/16 but I'm not convinced. He's a fragile little fella bless him...

Belloumi probably had a more successful international career but Madjer defo had a more successful club career. Btw I don't even like Madjer. He's an absolute bellend.
Fox 4 Life Posted 1 July 2017 Posted 1 July 2017 Was reading a few forums and the general view of Mahrez seems to be he had a decent season in 2015 but alot of fans think it was a one off and last season was his normal level. We saw that brilliance in 2015 but I think him putting half a shift in last season has come back to bite him in the ass!

Perhaps his outstanding form of 15/16 was due to a certain little guy who played in midfield and helped us play in a certain way that made his team mates look better than what they really are? ..just a theory of course!
