He can slot right in at LW and play like Mahrez in a 4-4-2. Best I think would be to add a CB and then play some 3-5-2, with Ndidi and Iborra/James in front of the backs, and Gylfi flanked by two wing-backs, likely Albrighton and Chilwell. That would be really potent I expect, and very solid defensively. Otherwise, AMs are often allowed to roam a bit, if we're disciplined elsewhere, he can sort of just play in the middle in support of our forwards. I've seen him play in a front 3 and also in CM for Iceland but he would be wasted playing in one of the wide positions in a 442
Jimmy Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 he'd replace Drinkwater and be an upgrade over him, with Chelsea then giving us a chunk of the fee back for the man he just replaced

UpTheLeagueFox Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 Fantastic player but he wants to go to Everton, not us. I'm all for progressing us but I'd feel uncomfortable spending £50m on a player. It felt wrong spending £8m when we bought Ulloa! (He proved to be value for money btw)

We all know this so I'm not sure why so many people still want us to throw money after him. Whatever happened to, 'we only want players who want to be here'?

Wymsey Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 Rather give Barnes and James a good chance, tbh. Youngsters who feel they can offer strong determination and resilience to play, than someone on big wages and, reportedly, demanding to leave a club. If he really wanted to leave, he would be handed in a transfer request (something unless he told Swansea very recently, officially?) at short notice and not this long?

Barnes hasnt played for us pre season. he clearly has shown hes not quite ready for us yet.
