People arguing against VAR should be made to suffer that decision, in that context.

I still resent, a year later, Grease-Man being given a penalty for a tackle a yard outside the box.

Wellbeck should be the subject of a review and a retrospective ban.

Fair play Jenas, he may be annoyingly ubiquitous as a pundit these days, and speak in the only East Midlands accent that sounds like it’s from nowhere near the East Midlands, but he’s correctly called that as a dive.

Maybe one of the reasons Arsene has struggled with Arsenal is where he watches the games from. It must be hard to judge a game and what is going on if you can't see it properly. Feel quite sorry for him every time there is a debateable decision go in Arseholes favour he cannot comment as he does not see it. Been going on for around 20 years you would have thought when they left Highbury they would have at least got him a seat where he can see the game from

Wellbeck is absolutely sickening, how can you do that to fellow professionals?

It’s one of those where he is expecting contact and prepares to go down but the defender pulls out. All players do it, the difference is Welbeck did it badly.

How many years has the diving debate raged and we are no clearer to a workable resolution. How many players have received retrospective punishments? 1? 2? Is diving still happening? Are players still manufacturing contact? Are goals (penalties) being awarded for cheating? Yes.

The problem is the reward for a successful dive is a goal, a win, 3 points, progress, a trophy. Win at all costs mentality will always prevail, so the cost of a dive needs to outweigh the benefit. This needs to extend to manipulating/manufacturing contact. Look at Welbeck, the ball is going out of play the defender is steaming in. If he plays fair he probably gets hustled out of play at best a corner. If he plays smart he anticipates the contact gets his legs in a tangle and wins the penalty, if he gets it wrong worst case scenario is a yellow card, but with the position of the ref there will be enough doubt for him not to book him. I don’t think there is retroactive bans in the Europa League so it was largely risk free.

The managers are right not to criticise Welbeck, Gattuso has admitted he has done similar, when the rules give so much reward to a dive then I don’t blame the player (it would be hypocritical anyway the number of manufactured pens we have celebrated) I blame the game. For decades now they have refused to do anything meaningful to change the culture so now it is the norm.

Let's be honest if Welbeck did that in the world cup semi - final most England fans would be applauding him! but the guy was so ****** obvious and how the person behind the goal gave it! who knows! everyone moans when foreign players do it but English players are just as bas if not worse. and we all know how crafty Vardy can be as we've all seen it at first hand!.
