Bottom line is Maguire has given us a whole new dimension and as a club we can look forward with some positivity which we haven't seen for a while.

As others have said this will allow our midfield players to actually play in the middle of the park without worry about crap passes from defence. To have DD unleashed this season will allow us to play in the middle and opposition third. For this reason we shouldn't sell him until we can see how we look with him in the team.

the midfield was playing noticeably higher than last season, now this could have been down to Maguire being willing and able to bring the ball out but James was playing a good 10-15 yards higher than Drinkwater most of last season, if James can build on his current performance level then we have already replaced Drinkwater

James has done okay. No more and no less.

Maguire makes Simpson and Wes's deficiencies with the ball even more obvious than it was.

If we could replace those two with solid defenders who can pass a bit as well I think we'd have one hell of a team.

We attempted to pass it out of defence all game on Saturday and it was great so see, just frustrating when it got to the right hand side and one of them gave it away cheaply.

Morgan's injury scare might force us in to getting another CB in which is a good thing, still don't think we are serious about getting in someone at right back but it needs to happen at some point.

I would seriously lol if he went to Chelsea, they buy Kante, win the league....you could say thanks to Kante, so they are after the next league win so buy Drinkwater and no rumoured to Mahrez...

if you can't beat them, buy them ?

Personally think the silence is telling, but not in a good way. The club or DD could make a statement if this was over, but they haven't. I suspect we're stalling until a replacement is identified, or until we've played chelsea (I think it's just at the end of the window?)

If DD is off, emotions (especially watching “our” midfield on September 9) will put Rudkin in jail with the fanbase.  To get out, he’ll merely need to deliver a player, late in the window, who fits in and clearly upgrades the midfield.  Interesting times.

What the hell has it got to do with Shakey and Appleton. Did Kante going show what he thought of Ranieri or was he just ambitious.

much like his playing style, kante could predict the future so knew Ranieri would lose the plot.

Would be strange to demand Mahrez full price and not Drinkwater

Not if they thought Drinkwater could be replaced with James/Iborra.

Also, given the money being thrown around, 50 million is starting to look cheap for a PFA winner.

Drinkwater is more expendable IMO.

We already have decent alternatives for a player who has been decent for us until 2015, exceptional for 18 months and decent at best for the last nine months. Chances are we'll never get another offer like this for Drinkwater but who knows with Mahrez.

Selling Drinkwater solves a lot of problems as it opens up a space in the team and puts £30-£40m back in the coffers. It's an easy sale methinks.

Neither James or Iborra are mobile enough to be a like for like replacement.

Nope. But like for like doesn't matter as much if Drinky isn't going to be starting anyway. There's a lot more real competition for DD's spot than Mahrez.

Mendy is almost fit as well. If Drinkwater gets sold then all these players are highly motivated to grab his first team place, James was a first team player before his injury and Mendy and Iborra were surely bought to be first team players.

There is very little downside in selling Drinkwater for the fees mentioned considering the possible replacements we already have in the squad and that we're judging him on the player he was 1-2 years a go rather than the one we've seen in the last nine months. £35m really balances the books as well.
