Weirdly not the first time someone has mentioned this. NOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sublime_Coatsworth Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 If we sell him now without having a suitable replacement ready to sign, then we will be making a massive mistake. I don't care how much cash we're being offered. I have zero faith that Rudkin will have a replacement signed in 2 weeks. If if anything happened to Ndidi we'd be absolutely knackered. James has played 2 games in nearly 2 years, Iborra's already on the injury list. Mendy's a sick-note. No one else counts.
nnfox Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 I can see DD leaving. I would be sad to see him leave as he has been a great servant for our club but football is a fast paced business and there can be little room for sentiment. Whilst it would be brilliant if we could have kept the core 11 players of 15/16 together forever, it was never going to happen. We still need to develop fresh talent and make improvements to the overall ability of the squad. Of all the positions we have, CM is the one where I think we can spare a player. If DD leaves then we still realistically have four quality centre midfielders in Ndidi, James, Iborra and Mendy whilst still leaving King and Amartey on the bench. In my opinion, allowing DD to leave for 30-35m+ and spending 20-25m on a central defender (Gibson/Smalling/Evans) would have a positive net effect on performance on the pitch. If he does go, he goes with my thanks and my best wishes.
dorsetboy Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 I watch a hell of a lot of la liga and tbh once iborra can grasp the pace of the prem he is much better than drinky . got good height and a great pass and very physical , in pre season it did look as though he was a bit shocked at how quick the game is so hopefully he can get up to speed .
st albans fox Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 We don't need to sell drinky to buy a top centre half. isnt that the point? we should be getting rid of surplus in other areas rather than selling our best players

And if he can't ............ (and please no one tell me he is a three time Europa league winner - he played about ten minutes across the three finals) you cant plan your season on what might be ok.

How about we just sign the best players we're able to AND try and hold on to the likes of Mahrez, Drinkwater etc If we need to cover some of the outgoings for financial reasons, there's a few fringe players who can leave without a loss to the club at all

By that I mean that we are thin in defence and on the wing and quite fat in midfield and up front. If Mahrez left, we'd be left with Gray. If Albrighton left we'd be left with... GrayMusa? If Simpson left then we'd struggle in that position, if Huth left... Benny???. However, as stated previously, there are a few players who are capable of stepping into DD boots. Our owners are astute business people and run our club like a buisiness unlike some other rich owners who run teams like play things. Whilst I believe we are financially stable and have wealthy, generous owners, anyone thinking that there is a bottomless pit of money is frankly deluded. £30m+ which could be reinvested in the wider squad should not be sniffed at. How many fringe players would we have to sell to raise that kind of cash, just to keep DD in the team? Mendy + Musa + Gray + Ulloa + Amartey = DD? Then we really would be light.
foxinsocks Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 I have said before that i dont want to lose dd. I will add that right now the prices of players are rocketing. .... eg gilfi lakaku walker. .. maguire was 25m so how much must dd be worth? If we are to sell to reinvest then we should sell at the top of the market. Nb one of the fastest ways for companies to lose money is thru poor negotiation

Can we take a risk on long term injured like James and Mendy staying fit? We do not need the money, so unless we have someone lined up as a serious replacement then I'm not interested at all. Agreed. I will go further and say that if we had to play Amartey and King in a two we definitely would be in a relegation scrap. We only need to look back to last season - it's there in the form book.

We need to shift King and Amartey as they are at the bottom of our midfield 'food chain' not one of our better players.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/4298748/chelsea-transfer-news-danny-drinkwater-leicester-2/ Obviously take it with a pinch of the salt as it's in the Sun
foxinsocks Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 What will we do with 30m.... this won't buy an international cm with pl experience who can slot straight into our team! I bet liverpool would want 50m for henderson We spend £1 in 6 wisely. .. this could be equivalent to adding 5m of value to our team. This would leave us at risk of an injury to james Madness
Gazza M Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 I have commented in this post we have limited quality in this area, but the more I think about it, we may actually be better off in this area than I thought. I think maybe Mendy could play a similar role if fit and with Iborra and James, we may be covered in this area. By no means does Danny walk back in anyhow. It might be good business to sell on at a 35m price if it came in.
sdb Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 He's clearly off. Too much silence our and his end. Shame. In the current market £30 mill would be cheap. How many other English PL winners in their prime?
st albans fox Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 James has started two prem games in 18 months Mendy about the same iborra hasn't started any yet people think we can lose our most consistent midfielder over the past two seasons ???

I agree with what your saying but he wasn't our most consistent midfielder last season. Wilf is the no.1 CM we have
FantasticMrFox&Son Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Wilf, Matty, Vicente and Papy-on-the-Mendy, I'd say TAKE a £35m offer and INVEST in creativity in the centre of the park. Hakim Ziyech from overseas or Bojan from the Prem.
Ric Flair Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 £30 million would be poor on our part, it's the closing stages of a farcical window and given the lack of time it should be £40-45 million. I'd consider it then, but as we'll need to replace him it's a dodgy price where we'd end up worse off I reckon.
STUHILL Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 If we sign a Adrien Silva type replacement then fair enough. Also hope Iborra turns out to be a top signing. We can cope, if we buy wisely.
