So do you think, as I do, that now they have got what they wanted, a Premier League English team in Asia, (winning the title as well), that now they aren't really bothered any more? The Thai's achieved their ambition and they will market their product on that success for as long as it takes to find another goldmine to exploit and then move on.

Anyone who thinks the Thai's are in this for the sake of LCFC are deluded.

Let's take it while we can, the glory and history of winning the PL. For the fans it's been everything we could have ever wished for and more.

For the Thai's it's all about making money and when that dries up, and it will, with our poor record since the PL title, they'll move on and LCFC will be cut adrift.

I thought it myself earlier, I wonder what their real motivation is for Leicester now. Not a criticism of them but what are they looking to get out of it from here?

Posted

Unsure. I mean, they spoke about building the club to make us a regular top 6 side (or whatever they said, top 10, I dunno) so surely one title win doesn't stop the ambition.

But, like I said in the summer, if they've got this ambition then why did they hire Shakespeare as manager? Surely they'd be going for someone "bigger" or experienced. I do question heir knowledge of football. And if their knowledge isn't that good then is the boards (including people like Whelan and Rudkin).... All the managers they've appointed have all been sacked, two were successful in that time (Pearson and Ranieri) and at the minute Shakespeare looks as if he'll eventually be added to that list.

Absolute tosh. If they weren't interested post title win they wouldn't have spent over 100m in the transfer market since. They're getting it wrong with their faith in the manager and whoever (likely Rudkin) is responsible for the silva fiasco, but someone who isn't interested wouldn't continue to invest millions...

as I understand it we are voting for the top 6 to take a larger proportion of the foreign tv earnings pot. That's not the action of an owner looking to get out or drive the maximum income from wallowing around the bottom of the prem.

In the sports bar in London last night, some of the talk by some well known pundits was the Thais are looking for a buyer.

I think after all they have done for us, yes, it's not all been perfect and sometimes a little shady, as discussed in other threads. The least you could do is use their names, rather than refer to them solely by the nationality.

I think they need to wake up and realize that the management structure is wrong, too many who have been in jobs too long, especially Shakespeare and Rudkin and incomptetent as well.

Silva fiasco should be ringing alarm bells for them, as should the millions they've spent on players some not even on the bench.

We're a premier league club but with a league 1 setup.

Can't imagine for one second that as businessmen their interests are waning and they are happy to see the club decline.

The current TV deal will look like pennies compared to future deals. The PL hasn't even got started yet from that perspective. There was a good article recently on the BBC News website that showed the highest grossing sports TV deals and the PL was only equivalent in its earnings to the MLB and is miles behind NFL.

Given the emergence of online streaming services and the increasing popularity of football in the U.S. the next couple of TV deals have the potential to be astronomical.

I if was an owner looking to make money the last thing on my mind right now would be looking to sell the ticket to extraordinary riches. Likewise, inorder to claim rights to those riches its imperative that this team stays in the PL no matter what.

I think it might be pretty telling, for those who defend Rudkin, if they insisted we needed to sell Drinkwater before we could sign Silva.

It seems likely that it was a money motivated decision to leave things til the last minute like that. From a footballing point of view it made no sense, we needed to improve the midfield regardless.

It's something I don't think would have happened a year ago. Definitely tightening the purse strings.

It completely was. We tried to play Sporting but they weren't having it. It was ridiculous to publically state that we were only signing Silva if Drinkwater was sold which caused Sporting to up the price as they knew we'd be desperate.

In the end instead of pushing through and getting the deal done saving millions on the fee the club have to now pay a player to basically do nothing which equates to another big loss in millions.

How Rudkin is still in a job I never know. He's cost the club millions and also affected matters so much on the pitch we could be facing relegation and further loss of earnings. In any other club or line of business he would have been given the boot.

The Thais need to stop being so sentimental and become businessmen again.

Why are you having a go at Rudkin over the Silva affair ? I doubt that he has his hands on the purse strings. He is Director of Football, not Financial Director.

You may not rate Rudkin, but wasn't the Academy very successful when he was in charge ?

Hundreds of things wrong with this thread. But mods any chance we can chance the thread title to 'Our Owners' to show them a little bit of the respect they deserve for making us the luckiest fans of a club that has been taken over in the last ten years.

I'm not being disrespectful towards our owners in the thread title. It was late and I was trying to be succinct. Sorry if I caused any unintended offence.
