This sounds weird to say but Morgan is a better passer than Huth. Huth is a great organiser and proper defender but his composure on the ball is abysmal. He is a much bigger hoofball merchant than Morgan is.

Seeing as Huth is 33 and Morgan is 34 in Jan, I'm not sure we should rely on either of them.

I'm assuming the plan is to phase both out so we have Maguire & Dragovic as our 2 CBs.

There seems to be an over emphasis on here about ditching older players and bringing in youth players, players apparently been over the hill when they hit their 30s (vardy the exception).

Dont under estimate the need for experience as well as maintaining depth in a squad, the contract extensions were logical.

Just been told it seems James is thinking of calling it a day this time.

Desperately sad if true. Would almost certainly have got an England cap if he'd stayed fit.

Real shame that as he wasn't looking too bad before he got injured again. Any idea if he is going to be offered some behind the scenes work or coaching with the club?

He's back in training.

Huth was in the pre-Newcastle training video so probably ahead of James by a bit. Good news about James too, although Silva should be match fit by the time James is. Luckily we're not in desperate need of either of them atm.

2 good servants whose time here now seems sadly up, both will be remembered for being part of an amazing era for the club.

We gave James a FOUR year contract in the Summer. We'll struggle to shift him unless he's happy to take a pay cut.

Huth and Morgans time has "been up" for about the last three seasons running according to most on here. Why on earth people want to prematurely write players off god only knows, Huth was still performing to a more than good enough level to play for us last season and James would still be getting on the bench every week when fit.

I don't want to think about the lack of pace if Huth played with Maguire, that's my worry. I know it probably won't happen, mind.

Certainly not ideal, but we do have Dragovic and we can adapt how we play to compensate. I'm perfectly comfortable with the Huth, Maguire, West, Dragovic options.

It's inevitable that Wes & Huth are closing in on the end of their premier league careers but Wes is playing well & Huth when healthy would be possibly ahead of Dragovic. Don't forget  that Elliot Moore will be in the running next year as well. I see us buying a centre back in the Summer window

I want to see both of them playing first. We have plenty of opportunities if either can get fit before the end of December or maybe even in the FA Cup, along with the usual u23 appearances. Way too early to say get rid. Let's see what they can do.
