Puel

Recommended Posts

Wilf has not improved, his defensive attributes are excellent, as before, but he has lost the knack of scoring and his shooting from outside the box is no longer a feature of our play. As for the rest of the squad, I can't see any improvement - a lack of clear communication, any sort of tactical plan and any consistency in team selection have left the squad in disarray. This was clear after the home game against Palace (Only 3-0 to Roy on that occasion) and Watford away. What a strange, uninspired appointment Puel was, but there are others who also have to leave the club at once- those responsible for leading the recruitment team, our transfer dealings over the last 4 windows have beggared belief.

In case some of you missed my question earlier - which player has improved under his coaching?  Someone argued wilf but I’m not convinced by that. Surely he should have done something noticeable with some of our players by now? It can’t be taking all his time to change the style...... he surely has to work with the individuals aswell to affect that change effectively ??

Yes!

This is came up in the aftermath of Palace.

I don’t like Hodgson, however look how he has turned things around and improved many players game’s there in a similar time frame.

Not one of our players you can look at and say Puel has improved them.

Plain and simple, a good manager gets the best out of the players he has at his disposal.

He’s has had the best part of a season to do that very basic task and has failed miserably; they look significantly worse than after his first few games.

No point sacking him before the summer. If we sacked him now you just know Appleton would beat Arsenal and the players would decide they like him, he gets appointed on a three year deal and then in October I'm reading John Percy say "Leicester City players unhappy with Appleton methods".

Exactly this.

I have been to the majority of matches fraud has been in charge for and other than ndiddi I cannot see one player who has improved. If anything players have regressed. Surely this is a failing in football management itself.

Ndidi,

Chilwell to a point but still worries me defensively. Needs someone to aim for in the box or change his style/increase variation of crosses.

Morgan, Simpson lost causes for me. Only capable of playing deep + defensive.

Choudhury. (think barnes, Thomas etc should've been given chances)

I think Vardy looks a man possessed atm but don't think that's down to Puels coaching.

Grays attitude stinks, he just wants to sit on a bench for a Spurs or Arsenal.

Dragovic should've been played more, he's playing better here than he did last season at Leverkusen.

Think he could still potentially be gone by the end of the week. Would be incredibly awkward if they sacked the manager the day before the awards evening.

That was my thinking when the, "helicopter has landed" post came through.  The Owners could well have flown in yesterday for discussions with Rudders & Co; have made a decision to get rid, but will delay the announcement until after the Awards evening.

The one comment from the article i don't like is the players not happy with the intensity in training.

To me we didn't look sharp enough the past few games and that might have something to do with it.

The sports science should lay down minimum standards of training and any manager should have to comply.

A big part of our problems are that we're not physical enough. We need a few bigger and stronger players than what we've got.

I'm a great believer in "horses for courses".

The Sport Science team and fitness coaches should be dictating the optimal cardio vascular and strength training of players. Just like the manager shouldn't have the majority decision on transfers and the bulk of this should be specialists in scouting, etc.

I want my manager to be a great tactician, leader and motivator and nothing more is necessary.

Saints fan here. I came on here last year when you employed him. Everyone was baffled as to how a "club like us" thought that a cup final and 8th place wasn't good enough.

We got loads of stick in the media for wanting him gone and we were told that the fact he is boring to listen to shouldn't make any difference.

It seems that you guys are coming to the same conclusion.

Above all there is just something about the football isn't there.

Then again by all means sack him but just make sure you replace him better than we did. Most Saints fans will tell you that getting rid of Puel was the right thing to do, but we replaced him with a total idiot and now we are hanging by a thread.

The stick aimed at Southampton fans from the media was and is completely unjustified. No doubt if/when we sack him they’ll say similar stuff about us. Just like all the BS when we sacked Ranieri who would have got us relegated. It’s far too easy for fans of other clubs and the non local media to look at just statistics. It’s about far more than that when you are a fan who is invested in the team every game. Best of luck for this season and beyond mate.

More important to bin Rudders as opposed to Puel.  He has done more damage to the Club.

Yeah, we know more than most what it is like for neutrals, pundits and journalists to question a managerial sacking. The hysteria surrounding the Ranieri saga was bemusing, seeing as we were nailed on for relegation and going down without a fight. We got the whole 'they won the league, how dare a club that size want to achieve anything more?' line, as you guys did with the 8th place finish and cup final.

Looks like you've picked up a bit in the last few weeks and given yourselves a fighting chance. Good luck, hope you stay up at Swansea's expense.

Exactly !  I really hope our Owners read this.

Thanks for the good wishes although I fear we're doomed. We never get anything at Everton and City at home is our last game. Aah well, it's not so bad in the Championship where you have a laugh and won a few more games...

Then again as Claude would say "there are still possibilities....." .
