His performance against spurs at home was godly. If he plays that well the whole team tend to perform. Just getting the consistency from him.

When you buy a player of Iborra's age for £12m improving the squad is not enough. When he came here it looked like he was going to play second fiddle to Ndidi and Drinkwater. That was always going to be a bad VFM buy.

 

In hindsight Iborra has been a bad buy because James has been chosen over him many times and Choudhury is adequately filling that role as the squad midfielder. Puel I believe has the same opinion as myself in that good money should only be spent on first team players or young players with potential. Puel soon tried to shift older squad players who aren't first team choices like Slimani, Ulloa and King. 

 

We also sent Mendy on loan when he could have fulfilled Iborra's place in the squad.

Considering you said he would have played second fiddle to Ndidi and Drinkwater that didn't happen. He is not a Puel signing, for sure. But through that turgid home performances in the latter half of the season why he picked James over Iborra (and Silva) was madness!

 

What I am pointing to is that you say James, King, Mendy, and Choudhury could fill the squad role that Iborra does. But how many times did we use those players last season? A lot. It's all very well spending money on first team players but when they don't perform or are injured, we look to the bench and see Championship players and expect them to make an impact.

 

If we are to compete further up this division we do need to sign squad players who are better than the ones we have now on the bench. And yes, that does perhaps paying a bit over the odds for them. The big teams do this (and can with the money), but we should be doing this, albeit proportionately on the smaller scale. To say the only money one should spend on is for the starting 11 is neglecting the rest of the squad. If we want to compete in Europe, then what? What if we made Europe this year? We would have ended up seeing King and James in the centre of midfield more often. That just won't do if we are to compete for a Europa League position.

Chelsea did exactly this with Drinkwater a bench warmer but with premier experience if needed. Not a Choudhury James or king in sight.

Well, I just read three pages... what did 98.2% of posts have to do with Mahrez going to Man City?  Can the folk of Foxestalk not read a thread title?

Chelsea signed England internationals Drinkwater and Barkley and loaned out Loftus-Cheek. Drinkwater and Barkley are now out of the squad and Loftus-Cheek's going to Russia. Their transfer policy is an absolute joke.

He will score shed load of goals at Man City. They create so many chances that he will get into double figures in goals + assists easily.

 

£75m is decent considering he's desperate to leave but his true value will be realised next season when he's scoring & assisting for fun.
