Despite everything that's happened this season and the turmoil we seem to perpetually find ourselves in since we won the league, this was still our best finish in 18 years.

Despite all the disappointment, it's not a bad time to be a Leicester fan in the grand scheme of things. Bring in some fresh blood and we might be back up there. Roll on next season.

Have you bumped your head?

I’d say 7th or 8th would’ve been par so we’re not far off. I suppose it’s more the nature of it that’s disappointing but it isn’t the crisis some would have you believe

Would have taken when we were struggling under Shakey... but it could have been so much better.

Yeah pretty much this. I don’t think the owners will see it as a must to sack Puel based on this

The owners decide.

Puel may have saved his job with the strong start to the season and 17 points in eight matches.

Since then, it's W5 D6 L10.

However, we've performed rather well in the past two matches, surprisingly well.

On paper, we ought to be happy about this finish.

Knowing where we could've ended up realistically puts dents into that experience. Turmoil on and off the field has cost us.

After that awful game at Bournemouth and with clueless Shakey in charge, I expected nothing less than relegation.

So to finish 9th is great on paper, but to finish 10 points behind Burnley and fail to overtake them when they didn't win for months was just not good enough.

To fail repeatedly against relegation fodder at home and gift wrap points to the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, Stoke, Southampton, Swansea, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace was not good enough.

7th place was ours for the taking if we wanted it, I wanted European football next season and we just simply let it fall through our fingers.

This is pretty much how I feel too. After the West Brom game, I thought "I'd take 10th right now if you offered it to me" but in the end despite finishing one place better, the season has felt disappointing. We were on a great run and could / should have done much better. It's not so much the final league placement that's disappointing, it's the level of performances in those games we dropped points in. Today we lost 5-4, but I was proud of the display the team put in, and we made lots of chances. That's a more acceptable loss than passing it sideways for 90 minutes and not making any efforts on goal.

The thing is that we've basically proved that we are good at the counter attack, but not at breaking down teams that sit. Puel hasn't solved it, but either him or his replacement need to figure out how to solve it.

If you ignore Puel's early bounce after arriving and just look at the second half of the season then we collected 20 points over those last 19 games. Over a season that’s equivalent to 40 points, and for some perspective - this season that would be us finishing 14th - just ahead of Brighton.

IMO if Puel stays we'll spend our time in the bottom third for most of the season.

I hope he goes.

47 points is shite with most of the teams in this league.

Spot on, 7th best squad in the league without a doubt and to get only 47 points is shocking.

Fortunately the table does take that into account. His overall record is 38 from 29 which would be around 9th in any case from the start of the season.

We should've been in the top 8 so 9th is disappointing from that perspective. However, with good recruitment and (probably) a new manager we are well placed to improve without needing to climb above a lot of teams.

Yeah but he won’t have that 'new manager' bounce again. The teams form suggests a bottom third finish next year.

Sounds like you’re agreeing he should go anyway.

This season has been a missed opportunity. We could have been 6th if it weren't for Puel consistently f**king it up throughout 2018. Puel does deserve some credit for taking us away from the relegation places in his earlier games before the new year. However only 5 wins in 2018 is a pathetic return.

Well we pretty much finished the way we started, but I would much prefer us to try to score goals than not have a shot, despite the loss and a few mistakes the last 2 games have been a big improvement ...

As the old saying goes it’s not how you start but how you finish, had we finished 9th on the back of let’s say 4 wins in 6,

optimism would be massive, but it’s been the opposite, what looked like a season of promise a few months quickly deteriorated,9th doesn’t quite seem as good as it looks

I agree. It certainly hasn't been a great season and I'd agree that the table is somewhat misleading but my point is that across our history we've had a lot, lot worse. It could have been a lot better but equally it could have been a lot worse if you think where we were earlier on in the season.

Two or three months ago there was a thread on here asking how many points we thought we should get given the fixtures to come.

I suggested that 60 was a possible target but that 55 was realistic and that anything below 50 would be a massive disappointment.

We have 47 and we missed big opportunities in both cups. Puel has messed up and I wouldn't trust him to get it right in the future.

It’s a hollow 9th, Everton have been abysmal and we’re below them.

Europe was on but we screwed it up.

The best I can say is we finished in a better position than I thought we would when Shakespeare was in charge.

We have some dross in our squad but we also have some quality (Even with Mahrez on his way). Whatever we decide re Puel etc. we have to hit the ground running next  season. No more excuses.
