https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/10/07/luke-shaw-injury-could-lead-england-call-up-ben-chilwell/

England manager Gareth Southgate could be forced to call up another left-back this week after Luke Shaw picked up an injury in Manchester United’s dramatic win over Newcastle United.

Tottenham full-back Danny Rose is also struggling with an injury which means Southgate would be without a specialist player in that position.

Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell would appear to be the most likely addition to the squad, particularly as Ashley Young, who was England’s first-choice left-back at the World Cup in the summer, was at fault for both Newcastle’s goals at Old Trafford.

Young has not been at his best for Manchester United this season and Southgate is known to favour promoting younger players from the Under-21 squad. Chilwell has arguably been Leicester’s most consistent player so far this season and is attracting interest from a number of Premier League rivals.

Shaw was only able to hobble out of Old Trafford and was struggling to fun freely towards the end of the game, which saw Manchester United come from two goals behind to secure a much-needed win for manager Jose Mourinho.

City's International Contingent
INTERNATIONALS
Published 15 mins ago

A total of 18 Leicester City stars have been called up for action in the second international break of the 2018/19 campaign.

Barnes & Chilwell Named In England U21s Squad
- Eighteen Leicester City players are set to represent their countries over the coming fortnight
- James Maddison could make his senior England debut in the UEFA Nations League
- Harvey Barnes has been called up by England's Under-21s for the first time
- Regular updates from the Foxes contingent will be posted on LCFC.com over the next two weeks

Following an impressive start to life at King Power Stadium, James Maddison will join Foxes team-mate Harry Maguire among the England camp for UEFA Nations League ties against Croatia and Spain.

The Three Lions travel to Stadion HNK Rijeka to tackle their 2018 FIFA World Cup opponents Croatia on Friday (7:45pm BST kick-off) before heading to Benito Villamarin Stadium, Spain on Monday (7:45pm BST kick-off).

Ben Chilwell and Harvey Barnes - for the first time - have been named in Aidy Boothroyd's Under-21s squad for a UEFA EURO U21s qualifier against Andorra, at Chesterfield's Saltergate Stadium, before heading to Tynecastle to tackle Scotland.

Barnes, 20, has been in wonderful form on loan at West Bromwich Albion this season, scoring five goals in 12 appearances. The Young Lions host Andorra in a 7:45pm BST kick-off on Thursday, before Tuesday's 5:30pm BST clash in Edinburgh.

Schmeichel's Denmark got off to a winning start in the Nations League.

Gareth Southgate's side suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat by Luis Enrique's Spanish at Wembley last month, meaning positive results are crucial to their chances of emerging from Group A4 in the European competition's inaugural season.

Elsewhere, Nigeria duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Ịheanachọ will also link-up once again for international duty as Gernot Rohr's men prepare for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

The Super Eagles, who are currently third in Group E, following one victory and a loss, will tackle first-placed Libya on on Friday evening in a 5:30pm BST kick-off.

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, on the other hand, will be in action for Denmark in a Nations League tie against at the Republic of Ireland on Saturday (7:45pm BST kick-off) before a home friendly versus Austria on Tuesday (7:45pm BST kick-off).

A 19th cap is on the cards for Turkish defender Söyüncü.

Schmeichel, who has 40 caps for his country, starred as Denmark defeated Wales 2-0 in Aarhus last month to send them top of the early B4 group standings.

City will also have three representatives in Ryan Giggs' latest Wales squad with Danny Ward, Andy King and youngster George Thomas, on loan at Sky Bet League 1 side Scunthorpe United, selected for a Nations League trip to Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

Giggs' men will hope for a repeat performance following last month's 4-1 triumph over Martin O'Neill's men in Cardiff, but it is Denmark who head the standings courtesy of their stronger head-to-head record.

The Nations League representation continues with Çağlar Söyüncü (Turkey) and Jonny Evans (Northern Ireland). Following Thursday's friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina (6:30pm BST kick-off), Söyüncü's Turkey tackle Russia in Sochi in Group B2 (5pm BST kick-off).

Finally, Filip Benković (Croatia U21s), Alex Pascanu (Romania U21s), Daniel Iversen (Denmark U21s) and Viktor Johansson (Sweden U20s) are all in line for international youth team action over the coming two weeks.

Wow big opportunity for Chilwell. These withdrawals must piss Southgate off, can never get any continuity. Especially when they all play there next club game.

Bit of a shame, really. Of course a wonderful situation for Chilwell, no doubt. Hope he does impress.

Just think it's a bit selfish from players like Rose or McCarthy to withdraw at this short notice - always leaves the option open that they aren't actually injured and just didn't want to risk not featuring for their respective clubs in the league or in UEFA competitions.

Will we have 3 players in the starting line up. Come on Mads rip it up in training.

All I hope is that none get injured!

Also, if they do well, I'm hoping Southgate rewards them by sticking with them, rather than ditch them to go back to the to previous 'senior' players who seem to decide when they want to play.

Schmeichel & Ndidi Impress On International Stage

Maddison's England Call-Up Headlines City's International Contingent
- Kasper Schmeichel, Wilfred Ndidi and Viktor Johansson featured for their countries on Saturday
- Schmeichel's Denmark remain unbeaten in UEFA Nations League Group B4
- The Danes drew 0-0 with the Republic of Ireland at Aviva Stadium
- Wilfred Ndidi helped Nigeria to a 4-0 win over Libya in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying
- Young shot-stopper Viktor Johansson was in goal as Sweden's Under-20s defeated Denmark

The Leicester City goalkeeper, nominated for the FIFA Best Goalkeeper Award earlier this year, was once again in assured form for his country.

Without Christian Eriksen, the Danes were still a dominant presence over Martin O'Neill's men, but lacked the decisiveness required in front of goal to seal three points.

As a result, Schmeichel's Denmark remain top of Group B4 following their earlier 2-0 victory over Wales in Aarhus last month.

Foxes midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, meanwhile, also played the full 90 minutes as Nigeria overcame Libya 4-0 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Saturday.

Nigeria, who were without Kelechi Iheanacho on Saturday, are currently second - a qualification berth - in Group E with six points, two more than Libya.

Finally, young goalkeeper Viktor Johansson also saw action as Sweden's Under-20s ran out as 3-1 winners over Denmark at Municipal de Marbella on Saturday.

Russia beating Turkey 1-0 but Soyuncu having a good game, Sky commentators being very complimentary about him.

Had a cracking shot from the wing to the near post  which the Russian keeper just got down to.

* 2-0 not a lot he could do about the second got hit on the break, cut back to a man coming into the box, first time and in.
