Just over two years and in Berlin at the moment. I've got my German up to the required level, taken all the integration courses and passed the test but even with marriage, I've got a few more years to wait until I can become a citizen. Unfortunately by that time, assuming Brexit actually happens, I'll have missed out on the possibility of dual citizenship. I'm not particularly sentimental about it but it would have been nice to have the option.

What is the required level, out of interest? Equivalent to like a GCSE or A-Level or what?

Not sure exactly how it would measure up against those. I did do GCSE French but I can't say I remember much of it. Do you know the CEFR levels? I've just recently finished B1 after which there's an exam. I wouldn't say it's anything close to fluent but it's enough to get by most of the time. Not sure if this is accurate across the whole country or different in each federal state but in Berlin at least, that's the level that the government want immigrants to be at as a bare minimum. Once you have the B1 certificate it opens up various stuff like better access to certain benefits and faster citizenship.

Mexican or Cuban for me. Latin based anyway. Love the vibe they seem to.have.

If you were forced to narrow it down though would you prefer the Highly air populated Murderous Drug Cartel vibe or the enforced government censorship Communist vibe?

Either way you are spending your life trying to get to America, either through the sea or over a wall.

If you are Cuban you generally don't get a choice.

If offered a second life, would be good to have a wildly different nationality to make it interesting....

Iraqi? Would be interesting to live somewhere civilisation dates back thousands of years and the few Iraqis I've met have been intelligent, likeable people......but there's the downside of Saddam, invasions, civil wars, suicide bombers....

Colombian? Some of the liveliest, friendliest people I ever met on my travels, beautiful & varied country, stunning women......and death squads, narco-guerrillas and the rest....

Spanish? Generally interesting, lively people with a few opinions to share, another beautiful country full of beautiful women, lots of sun....but close enough to visit from my current life as a mongrel Brit of Irish descent.

So, it's got to be Thai: a very different culture, seem like pretty civilised people, sunshine, great food....and should be easy to access LCFC coverage.

That is true. Although you'd be facing a pretty complicated process getting out of either of those countries once you were born in them lol  Presuming you have to be born in them.

Think we need clarity from OP on the in's and out's of the thread rules.

I guess I was aiming for how you see the people themselves not so much the country although I can see it's difficult to separate  either way not to be taken seriously so whatever you can get out of the question.

Already blessed with a Swiss and German passport, so I rule.

But if I ever had the choice:

Canada

New Zealand (although a bit too far away for my liking)

Uruguay

Japan (just for the exotic touch)

Australian, no contest.  People as friendly and confident as Americans, but more laid back, and who have retained some of the mother country’s politeness.

"No worries" and "Good on ya" are the two best phrases in the English language.
