still going to be a lot of stuff wrong with it but it's probably, marginally better than just letting referees decide who they want to win and who they want to piss off.

Call me old fashioned but I don't want VAR.

Football is a fast paced game. VAR will slow the game right down and it's shown in the past that it isn't always accurate. Even in the World Cup final there was a dodgy hand ball.

I wouldn't mind a 'challenge' system that is similar to Tennis in that teams get to challenge a decision. But even that would have to be refined.

You just know that the Premier League will not introduce this smoothly, despite giving themselves 9 months of time to get it nailed.

Fine if you're sat at home watching on the TV but going to be absolutely tedious sat in the ground scratching your arse waiting for the ref to finish watching the replay countless times before we're allowed to politely applaud a goal in a controlled orderly fashion.

10 mins of added time every week to look forward to.

I’m curious as to how they’re going to make it work.

Part of the reason it was such a huge success at the World Cup was that you had a maximum of 2 games going on at the same time. As such it was possible to have 5-6 highly qualified referees collectively watching several angles of major incidents and giving good information to the referee on the pitch.

How is it going to work if there are 6 games on at 3pm on a Saturday? They surely can’t have 30 referees in a studio watching all the different games. And if they do, I can’t imagine the quality will be particularly high.

Also last round of the season all teams play together.

I expect that initially it will be unpopular, similar to the World Cup in some games. The idea is right, but it's important to get the timing right. Nothing worse than seeing a player and crowd go apeshit after scoring a last minute winner / equaliser and then have it robbed through VAR. But, I think after a few seasons we will improve when to use it and it will be more like Hawkeye reviews in Tennis or Rugby and may even add to the game.

Some of the decision made in the World Cup after VAR was absurd! Hopefully refs will use common sense when using the system like if the ball strikes someone on the hand very quickly from a yard or so then don’t slow down the footage to make it look like the player had plenty of opportunity to move his hand and give a soft peno.

about time!. hopefully it will stop players play acting and managers complaining about decisions, but I doubt it!.as long as it helps get the major decisions right and doesn't slow the game down too much.

As ever with these things there are pros and cons.

Should lead to less obvious errors and might even prevent players from cheating but on the other hand it might cause issues in terms of timing and communication as we saw in the FA Cup last year.

Also not every decision will be clear cut - just look at the France penalty in the World Cup final - was that handball or not?

VAR is like marmite - some will be for and others against.

Probably depends in if you gain from it or not!

I don't think they actually need 10 pairs of eyes glued to tv monitors. They don't in hockey and it works fine, plus the ref doesn't have to go and review it, the decision is made by the var.

its not like every goal is going to be up for debate, your talking 1 out of 10 goals if that.

It works in cricket and it works in rugby. I can't see that football is so vastly different that it can't work there as well. Bad decisions by refs can cost points. The technology is there so why not use it.

The rules in rugby and cricket are far more clear and defined than in football.

Also, the game has longer natural pauses than football so it could drastically slow the game down until it’s done right.

Even the challenge system is flawed, load of players just use it to give themselves an extended break or break up the momentum of an opposition.
