If he is poor we will have wasted a starting place that could have gone to one of our own young players and if he is a roaring success a higher placed club, even Spurs would take him at the end of the season.

Exactly. If there's no option to buy we take all the risk and no reward. We would be better off playing Silva as at least if he does well then we might get more for him in the summer. I really hope this signing happens but it's pointless if there is no option to make it permanent.

I was under the impression we only do loan deals if we get that option.
