Who will make way, Ndidi or Mendy, or maybe Choudhury & Tielemans?

He won’t play, that’s Ndidi and Mendys job.

Mendy and Tielemans must be one of the smallest centre mid combinations ever/

Its like reading a French forum

thread of Ihenacho or Silva.

Thanks for this, it's super interesting to see what other fans think about their players when they are sold. That said fans predictions don't always come true but are fascinating to listen to:

Ndidi - the Genk fans said he would be great and though he's been poor this season overall he's been a great transfer.

Slimani - the Sporting fans thought we paid too much but said he was a good player. Not got a future here but I think their assessment was correct.

Iborra - fans said he would comfortably be better than our other midfielders. He had a very decent stint at the start of Puel's reign but then faded away and was sold.

Silva - Sporting said he was great but he remains the biggest enigma we've ever signed. Just don't think Puel fancied him and that 14 seconds cost him dear because you can bet Shakespeare would have started him. So not true (for us at least).

Ricardo - Porto fans said he was too good for us. They are probably right!

Maddison - Norwich fans said he was one of the best they had in years and would get an England cap. I wouldn't put him at a "smash hit" signing yet but definitely a good player.

Maguire - Hull fans said he was good, and he proved it. Poor season this yea but had a fantastic debut season and world cup.

Ihenacho - Most Man City fans thought he wasn't good enough for Man City but would smash it here. Another huge disappointment.

Ghezzal - Monaco fans said he was crap. I think that's harsh but Mahrez 2.0 he is not.

The gist of it is that Tielemans was super hyped and they were going to build the team around him, and he didn't live up to the hype. Quite surprising because after seeing him in the Champions League he was for me the most promising teenager I had seen since Vincent Kompany (also of Anderlecht) and Luka Modric. They say he doesn't defend very well but do acknowledge the effort he puts in and goal contribution. Perhaps alongside Ndidi, he could be a big upgrade on Mendy?

To be honest if we get this player or not, or even if we do and he doesn't turn out that to be that good, I still think this is exactly the type of signing we should be aiming for. Realistically a midtable club can either buy signings that flop at top clubs for big wages and transfer fees, or experienced mid-table players from the league in their prime for big fees, or take a chance on young players with potential. Everton went for the flops strategy (Richarlison aside) with Digne (good), Gomes (overrated) and Mina (overrated). West Ham went for Wilshere (overrated), Arnautovic (good but hard to manage), Anderson (great), Zabaleta, Nasri, etc. Both of those teams are in roughly the same position we are as it stands. BUT our strategy has the greatest potential. On paper if we can be this good now with players with little experience, then in 2-3 seasons as everyone gets better together and get used to playing with one another, we could jump a level or two. That's what Poch did at Spurs and though he hasn't won anything, he has done an brilliant job given the lack of funds he has been given.

We've already tried this strategy with Ihenacho which has been a huge flop. But it seems like Maddison is a good buy who I think justifies the amount spent on him. If we are going to ever hit the heights again (which is a tough ask) then I feel like it's going to come through signing or developing one or two young players that blossom into superstars. When we won the league we all of a sudden had the best CDM, the best Right winger / forward and one of the best Strikers in the country all at the same time. That's not to say others didn't contribute, but those 3 were the difference. Monaco has a team of young players all emerge at the same time in recent seasons so it's hard to do but is possible.

Let's see what happens!

Sounds like the lad has been far too busy off the pitch.  Pere Claude will have to lock him in at night.

Next time warn us when you’re linking that NSFW French stuff Sly !

That's exactly how it reads.

Signing this lad seems to be quite the gamble, but we're crying out loud for a creative CM and the proven ones are either out of our price range or simply won't come here. Hopefully it will turn out well (if it's confirmed).

Just when you thought puel couldn’t get any more boring. Outcasts Silva without even a sniff of the first team, have poor performances for the last 6 games including many more before that. Sell iborra, Silva says he wants out, get linked with a highly promising young midfielder. Then puel decides no we don’t want this man, Silva has all the capabilities of doing the same job. Wtf is this guy going on about it beggars belief

Your post makes absolutely 0 sense.

My take on the Silva business it that CP hasn’t rated him and perhaps still doesn’t. But it makes sense to make those comments publicly for 2 reasons 1) make Silva appear wanted and in our plans therein giving us a little more leverage in the market b) if we don’t get anyone in and have to turn to him the ground work Is done. Not that weird.

Well it’s being plugged that Silva is good in a 442 set up Teilemans not so but may do better in 4231.
