Jon Sammels scored in 1-1 draw at Portman Road in the opening First Division game of the season on 25 August 1973

City went on to finish 9th that season, and got the FA Cup Semi Final before losing in a replay to Liverpool

Also had a courageous run to the second round of the Texaco Cup I see...

The first goal I saw "live" in the stadium was Richard Smith's last minute winner against Crystal Palace in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in 1992 (I was somewhat of a latecomer as no one in my immediate family was into football, so my early teens football watching "apprenticeship" was served watching the mighty Luton Town side of the mid to late 80's with my Uncle)

I was there. It was a beautiful sunny day and The Birch's hair glowed like in an advert for Harmony hairspray.

indeed, thanks to the wonderful website Wolfram Alpha

https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=weather+in+ipswich+on+25+august+1973

we can see that the mercury touched a pleasant 22°C on that afternoon in Suffolk as fans from both clubs filed in to Portman Road, full of boundless enthusiasm for the new season!

meanwhile, outside a nondescript house in Clapham, South London the one month old me lay in a pram in the sunshine, my tumbling path towards being a Leicester fan not yet set..

(bored at work)

I didn't know we played on my birthday. Johnny Morris in a 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham, a result that had the fans moaning (according to Of Foxes & Fossils) despite the fact we were romping to a record breaking Division Two title! Some things never change.

I'd never heard of Johnny Morris but, strangely, Animal Magic was first broadcast on my birthday five years later. I've always loved a talking chimp.

Gunner Rowley scoring away at Wolves apparently (we lost 2 -1 obviously)

First I remember was the Doog (why is everyone booing, Dad?) in a 4 - 1 gubbing of Sunderland. About 65 I guess.

As am I.

I was born late May when football season is over, so had to wait until Alan Smith scores in a 1-1 draw with Luton Town at Filbert St on the opening day of the 86-87 season in August. Went on to finish 20th and go down that year (out of 22 teams, and only 2 points off a 19th who went into a relegation/promotion playoff).

yes we were pretty shit that year. Manager Bryan Hamilton? Smith signed for Arsenal and came back to us on loan to help us beat the drop (but we didn't).

Also, our average home league attendance was 11,697! Fewer than 7,500 people were at Filbert Street for the 4-1 win against QPR in March!

Mark Draper in a 1-1 draw away at Arsenal - cracking result that, especially considering we were relegated that season ?

Derek Hines.  Arthur Rowley's strike partner and apparently the 4th highest scorer in LCFC history.

Derek Hines scored the first City game I ever saw and Rowley put the ball in the net later that afternoon in 1952

Bury we won  2-0 1953/54 .DivII..DivII-Champions.

I believe Rowley scored...

Hines/Rowley....made a name for themselves through the "50s"

Allan Clarke’s brother . Didn’t play many matches for us and IIRC we swapped him for Mick Newell

And swapped for David Oldfield from Man City when he left.

Whoever scored the 1st goal of the 1995/96 campaign? If somebody could educate me I’d be very grateful.

Steve Corica away to Sunderland. Remember listening on Radio Leicester and had no idea who he was. Didn't realise we'd signed him the day before.
