Who is the Premier League footballer who had to jump out of a hotel window in his pants when caught cheating on his wife!??

Mike Ashley may have a new transfer strategy: raid MLS in January.  Doesn’t seem to have worked out with Almiron, so now he’s going for the top scorer.  Does he think he can pluck bargains from the Most Overpriced League in the World TM during the highest-priced window?

The report is by Lee Ryder.  (seriously ?!  Sounds like a pair of jeans or a nom de porn)

Newcastle United are keeping tabs on another MLS hotshot in Josef Martinez - the man who is aiming for a world record goalscoring streak this season. The 26-year-old former striker partner of Miguel Almiron has now netted in 15 consecutive matches, an MLS record.

United's scouting network in the US is now well established with head of recruitment Steve Nickson forging excellent links in MLS during his transfer mission to land Almiron last year. Since then Newcastle's scouting team have remained focused on Atlanta United's matches and checked out the Venezuela international.

It could even be argued that Almiron is missing his old strike partner as he struggles to find his first top-flight goal in English football.

Does anybody have a feel for Martinez ' PL prospects?  Transfermarkt values him at €10M, but he's under contract for 4+ more years, and you'd think NUFC would have to pay much more.

I don't think Miggy has been shit at Newcastle but there's limits to what you can do creatively in a team with basically no other attacking players.

I'd probably swap Almiron with Perez tbh who I think would fit in well here.

Buying the guy he turned in to a record breaker probably isn't the worst transfer business.

By DM of course, don't wanna get FT sued.

Genuinely I can't, I don't fancy getting ****ed either. I did see it was shared on twitter a bit earlier and they've been shit hot taking it down so I think I'm right.

David de Gea has donated €200000 to the Spanish Red Cross for the clean up area after the storms in the province I live plus the adjacent province. Whilst we had storms we got away light compared to other parts and every football match in the province in lower league was cancelled due to the dangers of traveling. To be fair credit where it’s due .

I'm sure it will come out eventually, these things usually do. Someone else has hinted it it on said players thread on their own team forum.

For whatever reason after reading this comment I suspected I knew exactly who it was and after going straight to said forum so it proved. Weird.

Hey, just stumbled on some stats. Apparently, we've conceded the joint least goals in the PL, we've conceded the second least amount of goal attempts, and our xG conceded is second best so far (I know most of you hate xG but it is a valid measurement).

I guess that's something, considering we haven't exactly had easy fixtures so far. Obviously we need to improve our attacking but I think that is impressive. Hopefully when we improve our attack we don't totally lose our defensive solidity.

This speaks to our careful / conservative style of play so far. We've been focusing on keeping the game solid, resulting in keeping the game under control for the most part, but also why we aren't creating too much up front.

If you were a manager of any football club, making the team solid and hard to beat is the best place to start. Goals win games, but clean sheets win leagues, and look at Liverpool's recruitment and subsequent improvement after signing Van Dijk and Allison as a great recent example of this. They may not have won the league, but they certainly came as close as possible! Even in our incredible ride in 15/16, Ranieri's changing of the full backs and tightening of the back line allowed us to grind out results during the run-in.

The balance between midfield and attack is tough to get right though. Against Bournemouth there were periods when the game was in 5-a-side / basketball mode with possession and attacks trading back and forth over and over. That sort of football is really exciting to watch for fans, but drives managers mad because it's too chaotic and anything can happen at any time. So I can understand where Rodgers and even Puel were coming from in trying to sort out that side of our game.

The problem is of course that after watching 2+ years of fairly boring football, we are desperate for the attacking play to kick in! Personally I have to say I'd rather it tipped further the other way for a little bit, even it resulted in lost points. Losing 1-0 at Old Trafford is never the end of the world, but it felt like a boxing match where we could have gone for the knock out blow but never threw any daring punches out of fear of the counter attack. I'd rather have gone for it a bit more even if we ended up losing 2-0.
