Non League Football 2019-20

Recommended Posts

Likelihood is players at that level would have holidays etc booked and which tget would prioritise over their club, meaning you'll get a lot of bit part line ups running out and possibly even some clubs in mid table forfeiting their matches.

Finishing the seasons is the right thing to do and there is no perfect solution but maybe the above was factored in.

The real reason is that a number of clubs have contracted players. With no income, the clubs can't service these contracts. Which foolishly are paying such an amount that there are players at this level which work part-time because their football pays so well hence their reliance on it and they won't forego their associated wages.

Bottom line is about 70% of clubs at those levels will be fine - particularly where they own their facilities or have a sensible lease but those which gamble on contracted players and rented stadiums are feeling the pinch (**cough Nuneaton again cough**).

Some clubs don't have access to their pitches from May until September. I still personally believe that 2020 should be used to complete the season from say September/October and then a tailored fixture list in the first half of 2021 to suit.

Additionally in the background, the FA were due to perform another re-structuring. I suppose that ruled out the option of a shorter season next year.

Incredibly unfair and downright disrespectful decision. It's such a rash thing to do when we need to just be patient and see how things pan out with this. What is the point in cancelling a season when we don't even know if we'll have a next season?

Three clubs I feel really sorry for are Vauxhall Motors and Jersey Bulls who are already promoted. Then Halesowen who from Step 4 are in the Trophy Semi-Finals. Plus the clubs in the Vase semi-finals.

Totally ludicrous decision. The season should finish regardless and should it end up being February 2020 for example then so be it, you structure any gaps in the months to suit, extra cup competitions or play offs perhaps (if it wouldn't be too late to change the system). Outrageous in my opinion.

The National League Board met earlier today and has reviewed its prior decision to suspend the competition until at least 3rd April 2020.

In consideration of the very serious and unprecedented national public health emergency caused by the coronavirus, the Board has taken the decision to suspend the National League, National League North and National League South competitions indefinitely.

The National League is currently obtaining specialist legal advice, is consulting regularly with The Football Association and other stakeholders, and is committed to involving its member clubs in a pending decision on how best to conclude the 2019/20 season.

Notts County Football Club

Board statement:

Our board of directors have issued the following statement after the National League today announced that the majority of its clubs have voted to cancel the remaining matches of the 2019-20 season, with a further vote to follow on how the outcomes of the campaign should be decided.

We would like to place on record our disappointment that the 2019-20 Vanarama National League season has been brought to a premature end.

While we appreciate the views of other clubs and respect the overall outcome of this vote as a representation of opinion across the three divisions, our stance has always been that the National League should operate in tandem with the EFL due to the intrinsic link between the two leagues.

We were therefore opposed to this vote being imposed – particularly as there was no clear indication of what the next steps would be in terms of deciding the conclusion of the season, including end-of-season play-offs and matters concerning promotion and relegation.

We have written to the National League on a number of occasions over the past month with detailed, constructive and well-considered options for how we believe the league can be concluded, thus giving clubs involved at both ends of the table a fair opportunity to compete for what they deserve.

One of such proposals would lead to clubs in less promising or precarious positions being able to conclude their season once and for all, leaving the others to resolve matters in the spirit of the competition over a short time period.

We thank the National League for allowing us to submit our thoughts and hope they are duly considered by the board and its executive to enable them to provide a fair way of deciding these huge outcomes in the next stage of voting.

To be clear, while all remaining scheduled league matches have been cancelled, we are not ruling out a return to action in some form between now and the formal conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign. We will therefore continue to ask our players to train remotely and, as a club, we’ll make sure we’re ready to resume our push for promotion if we’re given the opportunity we feel we and others deserve.

We’d also like to advise our supporters that no decision has yet been taken by the FA on how this season’s Trophy campaign will be concluded. We’re mindful that hundreds of our fans purchased tickets for the first leg of our semi-final away to Harrogate Town and appreciate their patience. As soon as we have an update on what’s planned for the competition, we’ll circulate it.

In the meantime we look forward to hearing from the National League with regards to what the next round of voting will entail, with the continued hope that our fight for an immediate return to the EFL isn’t over.

Stay home, stay safe and thank you for your amazing continued support.

This could get messy.  I can't imagine Barrow and Harrogate being too happy about this.

York top of North too, only a couple clear of 2nd but they've had a lot of issues recently coupled with back to back relegations and are 14 clear of 8th. BPA 12 points from safety yet gonna stay up.

Barrow, only 4 clear of 2nd, but about 15 ahead of 8th.

I mean I'm pleased Chesterfield won't go down but it's not fair. This is why I'm not for just voiding a season. So many sides within distance of promotion and it's gonna get scrapped.

If they go on points per game, King's Lynn will overtake York because of their two games in hand.

Surely you just promoted Barrow to make it 72 again?

I think we'll hear soon what the second vote will reveal on "sporting outcomes" for this season, but I fully expect it to go null and void and certainly no promotion or relegation. Goes without saying I'm gutted for anyone In with a real shout of promotion but for every compelling argument there is for promoting a team on ppg, you can't really have promotion without relegation and the likes of Fylde and Ebbsfleet can argue that they deserve a chance of staying up with 10 games left. It's within the national league's rules to null and void if teams cannot complete the season for any reason and think they'll go for what they consider to be the simplest solution irrespective of any potential legal ramifications.

Long time with no news here.

Just got an email from NCFC saying we will be hearing this week as to what will be happening in regards to the rest of this season.

Obviously hoping for playoffs.

The club has asked season ticket holders to not ask for refunds, if they can manage it financially.

For anyone interested in non-league/local teams, there's a podcast on AFC Hinckley where they interview players etc. A fairly interesting listen, hearing about the careers of players bouncing around non-league and their experiences with lockdown and football in general.
