Henry Winter (who I usually agree with) saying Maddison shouldn't have been included because of the casino thing.

England don't play for four months after next week so you can't rule out players now- pick them when available and on form. Maddison will probably apologise and then move on, you can't treat it like a naughty step.

Did nothing worth apologising for ffs.

Reckon Henderson, O'connell and Lundstram from Sheff United should have been called up. Joint best defence in the league and can't even get a look in, must be quite demoralising.

They've played less than a dozen games, let's see if it's sustainable before we go calling up flavours of the month.

Our midfield doesn't do anything which is the issue.

Rice sits there and attempts to sweep but is about as useful as farting in a colander. Henderson runs a lot and can pick a pass out once a month, and Mount is decent but can't operate with no midfield support.

If he wants to play Rice then so be it, but he then needs to compensate with 2 midfielders with passing ability, Henderson has an engine. I would love to see him try 2 of Mount, Maddison and Ox, but we won't see that ever.

"Farting in a colander"".  Lol sensational. Simply brilliant

I agree but it probably won't hurt if he just said sorry and that's the end of it, better to just do it than it drag on.

2 dropped out already. We always seem to have multiple drop outs each time we announce a squad. As per he probably won't replace Barkley and we'll end up short of options

Well deserved, should have been one of the three to begin with.

Hopefully Barkley being out elevates Maddison's chances, but more than likely we go with Mount and Winks or some other pointless combination.

I doubt it tbh, he'll probs start Mount and try some weird variant to not give him a game.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Alli called up. Grealish deserves it but doubt hed get it for same reasons as Maddison

sterling not being considered for thursday's game because he was trying to scrap joe gomez after they squared up to each other in their match yesterday.

up the england.

it's genuinely sensational news for a lot of reasons, really thought it was a piss take when i read it before

Well that's great, our best player has just been dropped yet its "great man management" from Southgate.

Should've just given the Man City and Liverpool camps until today to arrive and given them a full day to move on from their game.

Amusing how Gomez who probably won't get a sniff of the pitch is prioritised over Sterling. This should've  been dealt with in-house and never leaked to the press.

Sounds like it was Sterling looking for it and Gomez didn't retaliate. Thought he'd have grown up by now

Yeah he’s not shown any signs of maturity in the last few years tbf

Sterling right to pick a fight with the cheating Scouse gits. Well done son.

Hope he quits the useless England set up along with lots of other players who can also 'retire'; does anyone not think the FA is a complete joke? Our better players would be well advised to steer clear of the shambles.

The media must be besides themselves that they get another opportunity to have a go at Sterling.

Could see this happening a mile off on Sunday - I was even saying to the tv (as you do) that they should calm down as they would be working together this week.

Sterling may have been in the wrong here, but it all comes from Gomez trying to pick him up like a baby during the Liverpool game.

Both acted like morons, but Sterling obviously took it too far by starting this off the pitch. Gomez should probs be spoken to about antagonizing people on the pitch

Brilliant management from Southgate imo, it’s easy to ban a fringe player or someone not guaranteed to start.

To ban your best player takes balls, and sends a clear message to the rest of the squad that being a dick will not be tolerated and club rivalries must be left at the door.

A huge problem they had when the likes of Rio, Terry, Gerard etc.

You think? He's just given the media license to have a go at him again, and if there's one player who doesn't need that it's him. The England players get so much grief, and it's Southgate's job to deflect that. Same with Maddison - why not give the full story about what happened (like Brendan did), rather than leaving it ambiguous and giving the media fuel to speculate unfairly. If it were the golden child I am sure it would have been dealt with quite differently.

By all means deal with it behind close doors and then public facing make up a story about him needing more of a rest to get over a niggle before bringing him in the next match or something.

I half disagree, half agree with you.

It does take balls to suspend your best player compared to a fringe player, so Southgate gets a point for that.

But, anyone from a mile away could see the game on Sunday got to both teams, especially Sterling. Both sets should've been given an additional day and not arrived until this morning/afternoon and miss the first days training. Gives them time to cool off before coming in. Good man management would be that and pulling them in for a chat to make sure there's no tension between players.

The whole camp also is a shit show for letting that leak to the press.

You imagine what they will be like in the England set up when Liverpool win the league this season, id sack it off now if I was Sterling just like Vardy did 😂

Imagine the likes of Henderson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomes strutting around St Georges like billy big bollox.

Fvck that lads, go find a long lost great great uncles grandma from Ireland or somewhere and get the fvck out why you can.
