Liverpool Post Match Thread

After we lose to both West Ham and Newcastle, then BR can play U23s in next two games and give all 'first team' 10 days off, rest and restart the campaign, and forget both cups.

Only logical thing to do as CL much more valuable than FA or Caribou cups in terms of cash and attracting essential new players of the right quality.

Unfortunately as Scottish league is so sh*t, he could play the same team and same tactics every week and he hasn't learnt he can't in PL.

Welcome to the big league Brendan.

You are deluding yourself sadly. You know in your heart of hearts that we all expected at least to be competitive even if we lost. But simply put, we were spanked in both games and the margins of defeat could have been far worse. We have been abject in both games, not just tactically but worse still in lacking any fire.

Have you ever tried getting the ball off the best lad at school but can’t get no where near?
both Liv & City are streets ahead of us.
if you can’t get near the ball, can’t show what fire you have

New Year coming new players in coming ( hopefully!!)

many folk don’t rate Chilwell think he’s found out far too often but last 2 games have shown he’s been targeted by Manc City & Scouserpool so do we have to worry do we need to find him a decent bit of competition?

Teally hope Brendan can sort this spiralling defeat mentality out very soon thought we’d be top 5 this season if were not careful we’ll be just hoverboard on top 10?

No one is denying what Rodgers has done so far..all of us would and /are delighted with 2nd spot but what is worrying is what the Celtic /pool fans told us.

He is showing a naivety when it comes to-playing the big clubs...the biggest fear is that he is not learning from them.

Some of his selections and tactics are very puzzling.

Barnes tonight at best is an impact sub ...playing Maddison out of position ..baffling.

Lets remember one thing here...this guy is on top money..for him not to change it at half time..is a major concern.

Other people will come on here saying it’s an over reaction etc...no it’s not..outside pool and city ,this is a poor league.

Saying 'City' has given the game away. Toodle pip.

My assessment.

1. We were naive tactically.

A) You can’t let the best crosser in the Premier league that much space. We should have played a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 and pushed them back. They utilise the fullbacks a lot. They’re practically wingbacks. To not address this is criminal.

B) They have an industrious midfield but it isn’t that creative. They will press you, so you need width.  Again, suits a 4-5-1.

C) No one offers when the defenders have the ball. This looked more to do with shape. We allow ourselves to be easily pressed. We don’t look comfortable with ball at feet. We could have and should have been 2 or 3 down within 15 minutes.

2. Barnes, Perez, Gray, Pratt - aren’t good enough currently for various reasons. They’re all lightweight and this takes me to point 3.

3. Aggression (bite) - we literally have none. Sometimes you need a player to take a yellow, throw in a heavy tackle, get in the face of the opposition, to get the crowd and sometimes get the players going. We lost so many 50/50s.

4. Workrate - we looked tired tonight. Almost like we didn’t want to be playing. We’re carrying players at the moment and It’s evident that some of them need a rest. The shape didn’t help the press tonight.

True. We have way too many soft players in this side. Players like Chilwell, Barnes, Maddison have absolutely 0 bite

Was it a penalty? I don't even know what it was for.

Hard match to watch. Watching Liverpool one touch pass their way through our midfield was difficult.

We have a long way to go before we ever match the ruthlessness and efficiency of their squad or Manchester City.

Hard thing to be where we are and play two of the best teams in the world in the same week. Those squads weren't built in a day.

Glad I'm here to watch the progress and building of this club.

We were in the game only throught their bad finishing.

But also it is not a coincidence that Michael Oliver was ref for this and their game against Man City, plenty of people know what's going on

Kasper is deluded if he ever thought we were in that game.

Fully agree. His comments made me laugh.
