Another development revealed at PMQs was that MPs shielding from coronavirus will be allowed to vote by proxy now that the House of Commons has ended remote sittings.

The hell? I thought democracy died yesterday or some shit?

Because MPs decided to call it out as it was going under the radar to most of the General Public. Still think it's farcical that MPs paid by the taxpayer will be spending 45 minutes per vote in a sodding queue rather than getting on with work.

I couldn't help but laugh when Boris slammed his first on the desk - was like a posh school kid being told no pudding for him.

If they had proof then Cummings would have been sacked by now.  Unless he went when all travel restrictions had been lifted of course, inc which case who cares?

Second sighting of a second trip was 19th April - travel restrictions and ability to meet 1 parent in an open space were announced 13th May

Might as well, he'd only catch it in the Rees-Mogg petri dish anyway...

Seriously though, of course it's fvcking ridiculous. Hope an apology is forthcoming.

I expect Rees-Mogg's plans will collapse under the weight of their own ridiculousness in the coming week or two. All the opposition need do is force a division on every vote and it all comes grinding to a halt.

And if he could be sacked I imagine he would, but given Starmer's not appointed him to any position that would be incredibly difficult.

But there was no second trip 19th April  - the person who said they saw him admitted it was made up for that date

shame the journos took that because without it their case was much stronger cause it was all true !!

I think the Mirror have said that he wasn't the source of the story anyway though

That’s where the confusion is.

Sunday on Mail claim the person made it up.

Mirror and Guardian both have said that wasn’t the source of their story - their published articles refers to a couple making the claim.

Watched Brexit: The Uncivil War yesterday for the first time. Enjoyable film, could picture Cummings working in that manner.

Haha! Mogg eh? He's dead posh and talks funny. What a LEGEND!

How lacking in human empathy do you have to be to act like this in a time of crisis?

Not only for the content, but how it's delivered...

We can’t have Europeans treating us like a second home, Stanley.

More like a holiday home.

Or a summer home, perhaps.

‘Government ready to open British markets to chlorinated chicken for US trade deal‘

Has this been discussed at all?

All this talk of ‘British sovereignty’ seems a bit null and void when we have to lower our food standards for the Yanks...

Ask whether the promise to keep chlorinated chicken off UK plates remained, prime minister's official spokesperson would only say: "The position is that the UK will decide how we set and maintain our own standards and regulations and we have been clear that we will not compromise on our high standards of food safety and animal welfare.

"The UK's food regulators will continue to provide independent advice to ensure that all food imports comply with those high safety standards."

A Government spokesperson said: “The UK is renowned for its high environmental, food safety and animal welfare standards. “We have been clear that in all of our trade negotiations – including with the US in our first round of negotiations – that we will not undermine our high domestic environmental protection, animal welfare and food safety standards by ensuring in any agreement British farmers are always able to compete.”

I am genuinely not sure where the quote that says we're ready to open British markets to chlorinated chicken is. In fact, the quotes seem to suggest the opposite.

What happens to the US trade deal if, as seems increasingly likely, Trump is voted out? I guess talks will continue but can't see a Biden admin being as bothered about it. Always seemed more symbolic to Trump / Brexit supporters as proof that there is some kind of Anglosphere in which we are at least a junior partner.
