The idea of clear and obvious is so subjective it allows them to ignore some and not others. If they don't want to give a penalty they ignore it, if they do they'll just say it was clear and obvious. 1
Arkie Bennett Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 Rashford has thrown himself to the ground under zero pressure. Justice done with the penalty save.
Bats8711 Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 (edited) Love it unpopular opinion (probably) but that’s a foul. It’s in the box. So its a pen. I do take that it’s not a “clear and obvious error” the way most would think in the flow of play, but once you actually start looking at it - it’s a foul. Just have to hope it’s consistently applied. To add - another chance to point out how ridiculous it is that VAR doesnt play full speed replays when reviewing for possible fouls. Edited 17 October 2020 by Bats8711
martyn Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 I know Man Utd have had a lot of dubious VAR decisions, but i thought that one was fair enough to give.
Tielemans63 Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 Imagine where United might be if they didn't get a penalty every single week.
Popular Post KingsX Posted 17 October 2020 Popular Post Posted 17 October 2020 The Athletic ran a piece a week ago about PL refs going to the pitch-side monitor when prompted by VAR. In 100% of cases, the ref has overturned his original call. The play has been looked at from every angle, in stop-action, and the call has effectively been made for him. He's not going to open himself to more criticism, he is going to defer to VAR and shift the responsibility. The point: the monitor is only a formality. Those of us who thought its use would return some balance and control to the ref were deluding ourselves. 5
don_danbury Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 it would be interesting to see the table if these stupid var decisions weren't made. a true table of where the teams sit.
Unabomber Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 Anyone seen anybody having a go at auguero for touching the lino? Seen piers Morgan saying it should be a red hahahahaha

It doesn’t matter that it’s a foul in your opinion (or even the ref if he looked at it again) the ref didn’t give it so unless he has made a huge mistake not to give it then the on field decision stays as it is 100/100 people have to think that it’s a pen for it to be a clear and obvious error It wasn’t one of those VAR is not supposed to ‘re referee ‘ the game it’s there to correct clear errors re pens/goals and to judge if a goal is valid or if a sending off should/shouldn’t happen
Bats8711 Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 Knew they’d score on the counter from that free kick
Vacamion Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 The consolation is this keeps Ole in a job. And he's blummin useless. 2

The swarming of the ref after every call has always been one of the more jarring things about soccer to me. Should be a yellow. The time wasting may be the most annoying part of it. Would he have put his arm around the linesman in that situation if it were a man? I don’t think so. It’s kinda creepy. Edited 17 October 2020 by Bats8711
RowlattsFox Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 It was a good counter attack goal to be fair, one of them where Shelvey had to foul Van Der Beek at the start of the attack. Good finish Wan Bissaka.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 17 October 2020 Posted 17 October 2020 Their last 2 goals were top drawer finishes!

I think that putting your arm around the shoulder of an official is not actually an offence - that’s what they said on sky earlier
