Looking at their XI for that valentines day match in 2016:

913.jpg?width=620&quality=45&auto=format

Subs: Ospina, Walcott, Flamini, Chambers, Welbeck, Campbell, El-Nenny

Only Giroud and Ox have had any success from that side. The rest have either retired or moved on elsewhere. The only two that remain are Bellerin, who's still in their XI, and Ozil, who they're paying £350k a week they aren't playing for non-footballing reasons. Have they improved every position there? Well, they've spent almost £180m on upgrading their forward line. A forward line that has scored 4 Premier League goals since October. They've had more foul throws in the same period. They have spent £30m a 19 year old French centre back from St Ettiene... But loaned him back there and still haven't played him. Apart from a few investments they're still relying mid-30s cast offs from Arsenal and a few promising youngsters.

Look at ours from that day:

913.jpg?width=620&quality=45&auto=format

Subs: King, Gray, Ulloa, Dyer, Wasilewski, Chilwell, Schwarzer.

Kasper, Big Wes, Fuchs, Albrighton and Vardy are still here. Otherwise we've sold 3 of that midfield for £130m and the academy kid on the bench for £50m. In almost every other position we've replaced with either equal quality or upgraded to a new level at least once. Some positions 3 times with at least 2 players available for each position and some players able to play very well in multiple positions (JJ, Wilf, Fuchs, Castagne). Our style of play has evolved but still managed to get more out of the players that remain. We've learned from our mistakes in the transfer market and been smart and frugal in recruitment. Our academy development has been the best it's ever been.

Arsenal may have won a few FA Cups in that time, and got to a few finals - they've got a long history of doing well in cup competitions and as far as I'm concerned, that's brilliant for everyone else because it papers over the glaring cracks at Arsenal that have been there for a decade. Their problems go well above their manager's head and until they start addressing that, they'll continue to slide further and further down. The whole structure of AFC is toxic throughout, in the same way Sunderland's was for absolute years. Sacking their manager won't change a thing.

It's actually brilliant to watch.

That simple comparison just shows how much we’ve progressed as a team, how well our recruitment has been and how much Arsenal have gone backwards.

It’s the same case for other teams though, you look at the progress Wolves, Everton, Southampton have made, quite a few Arsenal players of their current crop wouldn’t get into their teams.

Bellerin and Xhaka should have gone years ago. Holding was linked with a loan move away to Newcastle for a reason, yet now they are starting him. Below them they have shit like Mustafi, Luiz and Sokratis who are all past their sell by date. Their midfield options consist of Partey, Elneny, Xhaka, Ceballos and Willock, none of them would get into our side. Their forward options consist of Willian, who Chelsea got rid for a reason, they spunked 72 million on Pepe and Lacazette has gone way backwards to the player he was, he wouldn’t get in ahead of the likes of Vardy, Jimenez, Calvert-Lewin and Ings at their specific clubs.

They have a few promising youngsters, Gabriel and Tierney will only get better, as will Saka, Martinelli and a couple of others.

A large chunk of their squad though are just past their sell by date, they’ll continue to slip into mediocrity if they don’t address those problems.

Are they too stupid to consider the most basic fact?

(by most reports Arsenal are paying the Vampire ₤5M)

The secret to a delicious Managerial Retention Cake is to start with enriched, double-pound-note flour.  Fold in the newest, finest training ground in existence.  Season with a happy, aligned staff and renowned recruitment operation. (note: omit the DoF who outsourced recruitment to his own agent.)

Bake well and enjoy.  There is simply no comparison with the tasteless Kroenke Cake still baked in north London.

Solskjaer  £7.5m ...   who the fvck would pay him that !! ...   hang on ...   20 teams in the prem ...     so divide his wage by 19 ...  got it !!

Anyone seen the cctv footage of Jack Grealish drink driving and smashing into parked cars? What an absolute bellend that bloke is. Wouldn't want him anywhere near my club

Edit: found a video

Southgate might take a dim view on this.

Good job for Grealish there aren’t any internationals soon.

Yep! I love watching the two of them on MNF but it's painful on comms.

Upson seems quite good as a co com too.

I think the lad has a substance abuse problem. That pic with the girl in the bed has him out of his tree.

Joe Cole on Chillwell “coming to a big club from Leicester” 😝

Good to hear that Chilwell has settled in well "going to a big club from Leicester." 🙄

They can't help but get digs in can they? At "small" Leicester, Chilwell was involved in a title victory, hitting 1/4finals of the CL, 2 semi-finals and finishing 5th in the league.

God, I bloody hope we hit top 6 again and break into that "Big 6"

I sympathise with anyone that suffers from any substance abuse, footballer or not.....but he could've quite easily run over someone whilst drink driving. I find it astonishing he hasn't been more severely punished, especially considering he fled the scene so he couldn't take a breathalyser

Semedo is absolute dog muck. £30m?

Makes you laugh with the Portugal connection and we end up with the best Portuguese player in the league lol

To think he was selected routinely ahead of Ricardo by Portugal. Totally baffling.

Wolves really are an entertainment vacuum, aren't they?
