Glad to see your stance on this signing appears to be mellowing somewhat.

Maybe in a couple of days you'll be saying gerrimin.

Haha! I am very very much against signing Tarkowski it is a reactionary rather than proactive planning transfer and think it goes completely against what has got us to this position in the first place. Trying to tone down my posts to not upset those of a sensitive disposition@HighPeakFox

Sometimes deviating from that plan will be needed to sign the right player.

Look at Man U under Fergie. Paid over the odds for Robin Van Persie and he didnt fit their usual formula but he pretty much single handedly fired them to the title that year.

Let me think, who do I believe? Tabloids and Sky Sports saying Burnley want £54M, or @UpTheLeagueFox saying they want around £30M?

In case it isn't obvious, it's Geoff I believe...

I've said it before don't believe Geoff. I asked him to play Chesney Hawkes One & Only in Le Venue in 1993. He said yes.......i'm still waiting.

Johnny Evans is 32...

He's 28 in November.

But Johnny Evans was £3m and a professional who had done it all with Man Utd.

Tarkowski has done it at Burnley and would cost at least 10x the price!

he's dug himself a bit of a hole saying he wants CL football.  if he moves to west ham then its obvious that he just wants a big payday.   he could argue a move to us brings him a European adventure and more chance of CL qualification.

west ham's board have made a huge rod for their backs over the sale of diangana.  so they may well go over the top to secure JT.

We have been linked with Tarkowski in several previous windows.

This just demonstrates what a Steal Evans was

Maguire had only done it at Leicester but cost £80m

The World Cup probably inflated Maguire's value a fair bit.

Pretty sure from what I've read he had a release clause in his contract that made him available for what we got for him if they were to be relegated. If you recall in the summer transfer window before Man City were after him and West Brom quoted about £25m

Are we actually in for him? I know we need more CBs and the old adage of 'only sign players good enough for the first 11' but if we did get him, does Evans drop to the bench? Surely not?

If he wants a move then slap a transfer request in. 28 yrs old in November is stupid business for anything over 30k + add ons.

If we can get him for 30k we’re laughing!

They’ll rotate as required surely. We have Europa League too, or we could be going to a back 3 potentially.

I could literally almost buy him myself.

Nah. Pretty obvious we’re going 3 at the back next season I think. So an extra CB is required. However big Tark’s does not impress me, has no resale value and is frankly about as underwhelming as signing Cattermole.

Neither does a fridge we sold for 80 million.

Unfortunately for us, a precedent has been set and we deal with it or walk away.

That link from Sky Sports stating Burnley wanting double (West Ham’s £27m bid) seems to be completely without basis, and just standard made up tosh.

Relates I assume to the reported (but unverified) £50m buyout clause.

Burnley have got to be carful though. There are certain attributes a club needs to command such a high price. Our stock has somewhat been over exaggerated thanks to our league win. So we are able to sell Maguire for £80m.... and he was also an England regular. Tarks isn’t, Burnley will not get £50m for him and I’d say it’s clear he wants to leave to take his game to the next level, so unless they’re willing to accept a more realistic price they will end up with a disgruntled player on their hands.
