Justin is better at LB, I'm scratching my head why he's changed it again after how good he was there last season and how mediocre Castagne was (who was excellent at times on the right)

I’ve thought this too, and then Castagne stuck one top bin:D

Yesh a few more performances like that and I'll have to change my mind but it's more Justin, he's had some shockers so far on the right since he's been back.

Fwiw I think part of the reasoning is that we are heavy on the left and light on the right with madders drifting infield but barnes holding his position

hence more crosses are likely to come in from the right than left and castagne will probably deal better with those at the back post than JJ

He has, nice to see him galloping forward Saturday and looking a bit fitter. Hopefully nearing full fitness now! Him ricardo Castagne all need injury free pre season to hit next season running!

Rodgers says he had a head clash early on

But after 10 minutes didn’t feel quite right and with his history it was best to take him off

May have been when he headed wide in the first few minutes. It's a bit worrying.

Sensible decision, especially considering his injury last summer. Hope he's alright!

Blessing really as it finally allowed Justin to play in his best position, he plays with more purpose and his direct running when allowed is a threat.

Bang on the head and didn’t feel right so came off. Can’t mess about with possible concussion.

I've had a couple and you definitely wouldn't want to be on a football pitch with one or take any other whacks to the head. If it's a head injury and the player doesn't feel right after a few minutes there's nothing you can do but take them off and as you say not something to mess about with.

Justin has got better in recent weeks but last night he did look much more at ease on the left, just suits his game.

Looks more at home on the left side.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens in the squad full back wise, we currently have, Castange, Ricardo, Thomas, Justin and Bertrand.

Chuck Wormleighton in list as I think he one who developing nicely and would like to see him play in some LC games next season.

...if you bring Wormleighton in then you will best have Albrighton infront of him!!!

Wormleighton is good going forward and just as adept if not better than Albrighton at putting balls into the box.

Looking forward to see what his next step will be.

Glad they don't have to drain the blood out of his head.

Did you notice home checking his eyesight last night. He clearly wasn’t right for the few minutes before he came off. Staff noticed it quickly and got justin ready. Good work by them as you can’t take chances with head injuries. Pleased he seems to be ok. I thought justin did well when he came on. I prefer him in the left and provides good support to progression with kdh and barnes when he came on on that side.

Exactly this as harsh as it sounds. Justin is capable of going on the outside when playing on the left which Timmy can't do.

Even though he's not been anywhere the level pre injury, JJ is still the best left back. Castagne our 3rd best option in that position and probably the second best right back so strange that he's not being used as the right back for the league games with Thomas at left back, then JJ and Ricky P for the European games

Castagne is typically a better defender than JJ though I'd say. They both have strengths and weaknesses.

Just as well , how many attempts to get blood out of his thigh?

Spot on, I thought it was just me! JJ looked destined for a first England cap to me prior to his injury. Castagne is merely a fill in left back that can do a job and is far better on the right. Another Rodgersism that baffles me.

JJ is definitely not a more complete FB than Castagne.

If you counted mistakes leading to goals since JJ has been back he has probably had more “errors leading to goals” asterisk next to his name than Castagne would have his whole professional career.

Castagne is vastly underrated on here and as someone else said on a different post it’s because JJ is electric which I love but let’s not make out that Castagne is a slouch and doesn’t have Duracell bunny energy levels himself.

Castagne is defensively head and shoulders above JJ currently anyway and if you consider Barnes is our first choice LW - one thing that Harvey isn’t notorious for is his defending/tracking back so quite a simple decision for Brendan on this one.

JJ pre injury was amazing but this season hasn’t got close to those levels and you can’t solely say that’s down to him playing on the right rather than the left as him with lackluster tackles leading to goals like they did against PSV or being simply taken out of the game by a diagonal ball need coaching out of his game.

Which have no correlation to what side of the pitch he’s on but happened numerous times since his return.

I will say though that JJ is a very good member of the squad and can see him being a first choice FB for years just want those pre-injury levels back.

...Great to see us so decisive in our assessment and getting the replacement on so quickly!!!

There are times when we allow players to continue when  it is not in their best interest.

Would like to see us just as proactive when something is working and we need to remedy the problem.
