Thankfully it'll be mostly forgotten amidst the wider performance of the recruitment we've done over the last 3/4 years. Wages freed up for people that deserve it, front of the queue will be JJ and Youri. Youri and Cags should be first on new 5 year deals with expectancy to go in a couple of years. I'd like to see Youri with the captains armband from next season. JJ next year.

Jattdogg Posted 11 January 2021 Share Posted 11 January 2021 You win some, you lose some. We just aren't the type of club who can afford to lose much if we want to compete. Goodluck to him, i hope he finds form as a footballer but just not the right dude for us.

It wont happen though and fair play to Kasper, nobody can say hes not earnt it.

Vice captain maybe, but i'd prefer Kasper kept the armband It's a subjective one this I think. Kasper is deserving of it possibly in personal terms but personally I think that a captain not only has to be respected and possibly vocal but influential on the actual field of play ie a midfielder or centre half etc. There may also be an issue of a goalkeeper being a too specialised and limited position. Kasper is very vocal of course but sometimes whether it's good or utter crap that comes out is debatable as he quite often makes a mistake but invariably blames a defender or anyone other than himself. Big gob doesn't always equal great wisdom 🤣
knitro Posted 12 January 2021 Share Posted 12 January 2021 I always thought he was a square peg for a round hole, which isn't really his fault. I also think he was brought in to placate Mahrez, and that's a terrible way to do business (see also possibly Nacho for Ndidi, Under for Cags). He scored a few winners, and in the pantheon of terrible transfers, this one doesn't really make the list, but it wasn't a good one.

Came with hugely over rated reputations both turned out to be absolute garbage Danger of earning so much and things don’t work out, from the players’ perspective, is that they could destroy their football career by not wanting to come down on their pay (even if in truth they should see the extra pay as bonus that they should not have gotten) and thereby getting stuck in reserves or on loan. Sliva, Slimani, Drinkwater and Ozil are some examples.
Tom12345 Posted 12 January 2021 Share Posted 12 January 2021 Why can’t players take a paycut sometimes to facilitate an exit that they also want, instead of wasting their careers away. They have no hesitation to ask for a move away and break contracts when it suits them. Of course, this is just a rhetorical question.

Wear the armband, call the toss & pick an end. Being the captain is great but being a leader is not exclusive to the captain. Youri & Jonny are both leaders without armbands for Leicester

Some do, but think about it from the perspective of whatever it is you do. Like imagine being unhappy at work (crazy, right?) but the only perceived exit is to take a pay cut. Are you jumping at that chance? Now factor in a career thats 1/3 to 1/4 shorter than the normal one. Edited 12 January 2021 by knitro

This, although there’s obviously the attitude issue and his mentality that we’re usually so good at scouting before signing players. Some good moments so definitely not Akinbuyi levels, despite the price tag. You could see there’s talent there but we also didn’t play much to his strengths but the moment you realise she wasn’t going to click with Vardy was the moment his days are numbered. A rare transfer blip, but then also fully expect him to score a few in France again. Can’t believe he’s 32 now after being here four and a half years. Their careers are far too short to be stuck out in the cold not getting any matches or playing in the reserves, or being farmed out on loan. Dropping from say 40k to 25k to play football is something I would absolutely do and I’m sure many players do, especially in a job you’d have been dreaming about since a kid. It’s not so easy to drop wages in the normal world where income and outgoings are much closer.

MPH Posted 12 January 2021 Share Posted 12 January 2021 if we had signed him as a replacement for Ian Marshall then i would have thought we were onto a winner. Just didn’t suit our style good player but wrong time.
LVFox Posted 12 January 2021 Share Posted 12 January 2021 Always liked Slim, but we just never played to his strengths and he was never of the quality to force us to do so. Not convinced Lyon is right for him either as they are quite a counter attacking side. Always thought he would suit a dominant team in a lesser league. Could imagine him being a hit north of the border. Any idea if the Lyon move is a loan or permanent?
