Not convinced Lyon is right for him either as they are quite a counter attacking side. Always thought he would suit a dominant team in a lesser league. Could imagine him being a hit north of the border. Any idea if the Lyon move is a loan or permanent? Don't think it matters. If a loan, it will be to the end of the season, when he won't be on the books anymore as his contract will have expired. If it is a sale, I believe it's a free transfer. We benefit from not having to pay his wages, either way.

I also think he was brought in to placate Mahrez, and that's a terrible way to do business (see also possibly Nacho for Ndidi, Under for Cags). He scored a few winners, and in the pantheon of terrible transfers, this one doesn't really make the list, but it wasn't a good one. ....that notion has been stated more than once and I really do not buy into it!!! Impulse purchase when Vardy was rumoured to be going to Arsenal, if memory serves we looked at him but the price we view his worth to be was around £16m, as it was at the end of the window we panicked to get someone in and took him at a price we should not have. Can not understand bringing in players to placate existing players. Now we all know tapping up takes place and it would be naive to think that players do not speak to players on other teams regarding the environment they are in and as friends there is a hint to come to play for their club. What I can not see is someone being brought in to babysit someone else.

Kasper is deserving of it possibly in personal terms but personally I think that a captain not only has to be respected and possibly vocal but influential on the actual field of play ie a midfielder or centre half etc. There may also be an issue of a goalkeeper being a too specialised and limited position. Kasper is very vocal of course but sometimes whether it's good or utter crap that comes out is debatable as he quite often makes a mistake but invariably blames a defender or anyone other than himself. Big gob doesn't always equal great wisdom 🤣 This is a very fair point.. but my question is... Is Youri a voice on the park? He looks to be the kind of player who plays a little under the radar and doesnt really "direct or manage" others.. more enables them. just a view from a long way away and having not heard his voice or seen his actions live.

In fairness, from what I've seen, I have to agree with you. He's more a player that seems to just get on with his game without being an influencer, unless leading by example is merely all that is required. Even then, for all the good things he may do at times, I wouldn't really consider him dynamic like a Steve Walsh or Cambiasso but there again, he's still very young, perhaps he's one of those that would flourish if given the job. In that respect, there's probably only Kasper and Vardy that springs to mind. I suppose a lot depends on what sort of attributes a captain should have. I don't think he has to be the best player but does have to command respect and be able to lead from the front and take a game by the scruff of the neck, particularly if things aren't going to plan. Roy Keane being and old example, Steven Gerrard and Henderson at Liverpool others. We currently don't seem to have a natural captain other than possibly Vardy but then his particular game makes him quite remote. Schmeichel shouts a lot but it's what you shout that counts not just the volume. Evans again, great professional that's been round the block but is he a captain? Possibly, but not a very vocal one.

Stop using the term ‘salary’. A salary is earnt Slim ain’t earning anything, he’s just being given tons of money by the club, for free 👍
brookfox Posted 13 January 2021 Share Posted 13 January 2021 Looked like a square peg in a round hole unfortunately. His strength was clearly attacking crosses so with us having inverted wingers and Vardy as the man up top it was never going to work out. Add a questionable attitude and along with Silva looks like the 2 worst signings in our history (unless I’m missing anyone obvious!). Hopefully lessons have been learned. baldeagle Posted 13 January 2021 Share Posted 13 January 2021 If we finally manage to get this big steaming pile of turd out of here and off our books for good it will be a massive bonus . Just hope we can replace him with another quality signing .
