So ignorant. There was a great article explaining what really happened with our administration nearly 20 years ago but I can't track it down. To keep regurgitating that shite over and over without reference to that little toe rag and his Monster agent is so frustrating.

Another thing I don't get, my memory is that it digital collapsed, and ultimately that is why we were in so much financial trouble? Maybe I have blue.tinted glasses!

Burnley should have raised funds by selling their players when the asking prices were at their highest point and re-invested now that they haven't they have an ageing squad that looks like it will go down 3 years. You have to be proactive in this league. I reckon the current Brighton squad would have finished 7th in 16/17. Shows how much harder it is to stay up now.

Wise's time at Leicester was less successful and marred by controversy. He made just 17 league appearances, scoring once against Liverpool,[34] and was sent home from a pre-season tour of Finland and suspended by the club on 20 July 2002 after breaking the nose and jaw of teammate Callum Davidson in an argument.[35]

Wise was sacked by the club for serious misconduct on 2 August, after which Leicester went into administration.[36] Surprised by the dismissal, he contacted the Professional Footballers' Association and appealed against the decision.[37] The Football League Disciplinary Commission later ruled that Wise had been harshly treated by Leicester and ordered that he be reinstated and given the maximum punishment of two weeks' wages (about £70,000).[38] The tribunal's order led the club to launch an appeal against the decision,[38] which they won on 18 September.[39]

Hall is Leicester's monster creditor

This article is more than 18 years old

Adrian Milledge

Wed 23 Oct 2002 23.22 BST

The spectre of Dennis Wise returned to haunt debt-ridden Leicester City yesterday when it emerged that his agent, Eric Hall, was the creditor responsible for the club going into administration.

Wise is suing the club for £2.36m following the termination of his contract for punching his team-mate Callum Davidson. It was the prospect of the former England international winning the case that prompted some potential investors to abandon their interest in a new share issue that could have staved off the creditors.

The club, which has debts of more than £30m, had originally faced a winding-up order presented by Hall but he agreed to administration after Leicester acknowledged he was owed money.

Hall's solicitor yesterday refused to say how much he was owed or what it was for. However, a spokesperson for Deloitte and Touche, who took over the running of the club after administration was granted in the High Court yesterday, confirmed the outstanding amount related to Hall's occupation as an agent.

The spokesperson also confirmed that 26 of the club's administrative staff - almost 10% of the total - were made redundant within hours of the club going into administration.

Further redundancies are possible but it is unlikely they will affect the club's players and coaching staff after a request from the Leicester chairman Martin George. "Not only would it severely harm our chances of getting back up, it would also, I would say, see Micky Adams consider his future here," George said. "He would be entitled to think that way."

George is one of a five-strong consortium, which also includes the former Leicester striker Gary Lineker, hoping to buy the club from the administrators and their plans for Leicester's future will be revealed at a press conference this morning.

The referee Steve Bennett has decided not to rescind the red card he awarded to Aston Villa's goalkeeper Peter Enckelman in Monday night's game against Southampton at Villa Park after studying a video of the incident.

The Blackburn defender Martin Taylor, who scored twice in Rovers' 5-2 win over Newcastle on Saturday, has signed a new contract with the club. Boston's caretaker manager Neil Thompson has agreed to take the role on a longer-term basis.

The bottom line is that all creditors would've been paid and had agreed a repayment package until the club was placed into administration by a judge due to the demands of the player and his agent.

Fingers were pointed at LCFC (including Warnock) as the playing squad mostly remained intact (apart from the sacrifice of Matt Piper) and went on to get promotion. However, this was due to no other clubs willing to take our players due to the high wages they were on. The club could not shift them.

The club did not volunteer to go into admin to avoid debt unlike some other clubs (Ipswich, Southampton).

Ipswich were in and out of administration in record time and yet their Chairman still moaned about us.

Some of our fans would be saying the same in the circumstances.  The points about their unwillingness to sell their very valuable players at the right moment are valid.  They also seem to have missed the boat on digital recruitment.

Leicester’s roller-coaster ride has inspired all - but top-four chances are non-existent
PAUL MERSON COLUMN: Leicester have peaked and won't crack top four for Champions League; PLUS I forgot Danny Drinkwater existed; AND bring back black football boots

ByPaul MersonColumnist

Leicester supporters have been on such a wonderful roller-coaster ride, it’s going to be hard to step off.

They’ve been enjoying all the fun of the fair since that epic Premier League title win five years ago.

Champions League football, two seasons where they were pipped for a top-four spot on the last day of the season and FA Cup glory at Wembley a couple of months ago.

To quote a phrase, it really doesn’t get much better – and that’s exactly my point.

There’s an expectation now that Leicester will step up and crack the top four this time around. Let me tell you here and now, there’s not a chance of that happening.

I’d be absolutely flabbergasted if Brendan Rodgers can get his side into the Champions League spots.

I’m a massive fan of Leicester and everything they’ve done in the past few seasons. But you don’t have to have been on a roller coaster to know one thing is certain. Once you reach the top, get ready for the fall.

I’m not having a go, just stating a fact. People ask me if I think Leicester can become an established member of the so-called top six and I’ll say it straight – I think they already are.

But that elite top four is something completely different and a mark where I have to draw a line. They’ve got no chance of doing that this season.

The fact is that the Champions League spots are already filled.

They’ve got one of the best managers in the business, a brand new £100m training facility that’s as good as anything around and this week revealed plans to increase the capacity of the King Power to 40,000.

Where can you see Leicester finishing in the Premier League table in the 2021/22 season? Let us know in the comments section.

Can we see a repeat of this if Brendan Rodgers guides Leicester City to a Champions League spot this season?

Brilliant, but still not enough to join the elite. Man City aren’t leaving the party any time soon, Chelsea are getting stronger, Liverpool will be stronger and have Virgil van Dijk on the way back and Man United are bankers to be in there.

Those four are so far in front of everyone else, it’s frightening. The likes of Leicester, Tottenham and Arsenal are in a separate league below.

So there’s no room at the inn and that’s just a harsh reality of life for clubs like Leicester, who could find it more difficult this season than some imagine.

I’m a huge admirer of Jamie Vardy but he’s a year older and time stands still for no one. Kelechi Iheanacho stepped up to the plate brilliantly when Vardy’s goals dried up, but he can’t keep scoring worldies.

There aren’t really any other contenders to force their way in and so that’s why I’m absolutely certain that ‘cracking’ the top four is for fans who live on Fantasy Island.

I’m hearing Danny Drinkwater really caught the eye in Chelsea’s friendly with Bournemouth the other night.

I’m really pleased for him because, without being horrible, I’d completely forgotten about him and that’s a shame because he is a really good player.

Drinkwater seemed to lose his way a bit after being a key player in Leicester’s title win and was on the fringes of the England team when he joined Chelsea for £35m in the summer of 2017. It all went a bit wonky after that – a succession of managers and disastrous loan deals later left him out of the picture at The Bridge.

Some people would say, ‘What are you talking about? He’s picking up a hundred grand a week’. But that’s not the point.

I’m not sure Danny can turn things around at Chelsea but he might just be able to get himself a move and re-ignite his career.

This is a first- I agree with Paul Merson! I think the top 4 are nailed on before a ball is kicked.

What we’ve done over the past couple of years is to kill off, at least temporarily, the big 6. There’s now a big 4, way ahead of the rest. And we’re part of the next group along with Spurs & Arsenal, with Everton & Villa desperate to join us.

My guess is fifth or sixth for us next season but it could be two/three places lower. And whoever finishes fifth is likely to be 6+ points behind fourth.

Wouldn’t say no to any top half finish if we could win another cup mind!

Imagine complaining that we didn't pay the ambulance service £16,000 20 years ago because we were literally penniless and completely ignoring the fact that Vichai personally donated £2m to our children's hospital and £1m to our university hospital. Even in the years after his death the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation has donated £2m to charitable causes in his name.

And the reason that ambulance bill wasn't paid was due to two individuals that were not employed by the club (of course also aided and abetted by the PFA).

Good point about Khun Vichai and his family.

He's right, the level headed fans amongst will know that he probably is

But, there is a hint of pundits like him moving away from Sky's big 6 and back to the old fashioned top 4 in there. Now Arsenal and Spurs have seemingly slipped backwards the big 6 is no longer a thing again, and the traditional top 4 is back. Can't have teams like Leicester, West Ham etc being called big clubs now, can we

Despite signing Varane, United still aren’t convincing. They won one more game than us last season (admittedly we lost 6 more) but our depth has improved now. Whilst Solskjaer remains in charge we’ve always got a chance of finishing above them.

Their first XI is actually quite weak for their standards as well. Fred started 27 league games, McTominay 24 (I actually quite rate him) and Matic 12.

None of Rashford, Martial or Greenwood are natural strikers and as good as he is, Cavani is injury prone and 33.

They probably will finish above us again but it’ll be close as it has been for the last two seasons.

We blew our top 4 chances 2 seasons on a row, it will cost us.

If we get 6th that will be impressive.

Top 6 remains the target. It's obviously disappointing to have missed out on the UCL by fine margins two years running, but on merit we've still had two cracking seasons. And won something in the process.

Honestly, keep playing to the level we now know we're capable of and we can still ask questions. On the cup competition front, we should be starting to prioritise the Europa League as something we can feasibly win in order to qualify for UCL that way. Getting there by cracking the top four? Bonus, but nobody gets anything for the cabinet by finishing fourth. Ask Spurs. :D

There is absolutely no way Derby's 8 players or whatever they have are worth that.

It's likely they still have Rooney listed as a player and he's worth more pissed up and passed out, than the entire Derby squad put together.
