If they truly felt guilty they would've stopped it before it went ahead. Any apology is for PR purposes.

They need to get on the training ground and work hard for the team again.

As for Southgate, we all know he's got double standards and Maddison was on the wrong side of them anyway. He basically needed to be an angel and more to get Southgate onside, it was fairly futile in any case but he's just given ammunition here.

Do you really think that’s it?

On merit I don’t think Maddison gets in the England squad even before this incident. He might disagree but at best he was on the fringes of the squad at his peak and he’s been injured a lot since then anyway.

Southgate has his flaws, and some decidedly dodgy picks, but I don’t think leaving Maddison out is a stick to beat him with.

You know full well that covid rule breaking is looked at differently, especially silly when football has been allowed to continue

there were some Turkish players who must have contracted covid before they went on int duty ....and became infectious whilst with the squad

of course there could have been some protocol breaks

If Maddison wants to apologise, he can damn well score a hat trick on Sunday!

Can't see Maddison or Barnes will ever play for England again.

The whole mess that they made for themselves shouts out that they can't be trusted. Feel very sorry for Brendan. It's as if they've almost out of their way to humiliate him.

I have absolutely no sympathy for this gang of 5. I know it won't happen because of money, but I would sack them.

To think that Ken Leek got thrown out of a cup final because he celebrated a semi final win too much!

If he'd stayed fit in the last six weeks he merited a place in the squad, his form before his injury was excellent. He was always a fringe player but had the capabilities to step up.

If Southgate doesn't rate him then that's his view, he's not alone in that, he does have a tendency to pick and choose who he holds to higher accounts on their off-field behaviour and Maddison's only "crime" before this was the casino visit which at best was careless because he was sent home ill but wasn't actually breaking any rules or code.

As has been mentioned, Kyle Walker has done similar yet he still gets selected so it isn't a zero tolerance policy with England.

Nah they will, especially Barnes.

All morality and principals go out of the window when it comes to football.

Mate Kyle Walker gets picked for England nearly every game. If Barnes and Maddison are good enough they will both get called up.

People acting like they are about to do a 10 stretch!

It's done. The club have dealt with it. No one get hurt it's just an extremely bad error of judgment.

His goals per game ratio is below 0.25, so a hat-trick would be extremely unlikely.

I agree, Maddison is only a legend in his own imagination thus far, he's miles off an England place compared with others. He's a decent Premiership club player but that's about it at the moment.

I see both points.

I agree with you, Maddison's form is too patchy and inconsistent and there are better players ahead of him on consistency, when he is on his game though he should be involved though, to add to that since when has that stopped the England set up or whichever FA yes man is in charge at the time picking players based on who they play for or name?

Maddison's misdemeanour have held heavy over him, make that misdemeanours now and in seemingly in a different regards to others who have made mistakes whether on England duty or not.

It's clear Southgate don't like Maddison and I can't help but kind of agree but others who have had inconsistent form, have made mistakes and are quite unlikeable, pretty boy/party boy characters simply walk into the England set up, Maddison cannot complain about not being selected now though.

A lot of fans will never drop this incident and will use it as a stick to beat the lads involved with any time they’re unhappy with them. Our fan base, like all fanbases, can be incredibly toxic at times. People will love the fact they’ve got an excuse to abuse the players with

Alternatively if they play well in the next few games and we get to the CL all will be forgotten

Who is more consistent than him who plays in his position?  All of them are patchy in form - Mount, Maddison, Foden, Lingard etc

Which players are more consistent than him in attacking midfield?
