As for Southgate, we all know he's got double standards and Maddison was on the wrong side of them anyway. He basically needed to be an angel and more to get Southgate onside, it was fairly futile in any case but he's just given ammunition here.

Double standards indeed.............Kyle Walker 👀

Just keeping up with this thread, and amazed to see Morgan is likely to have been the fifth person.

His playing career is as good as over; he is (was) likely to become an executive director at the club, as well as currently being a leading voice in in BLM issues. He was on the players’ steering group who meet with the chair of the Football Association’s inclusion and advisory board,  to devise an Equality In Football Leadership code. He clearly has ambitions in football beyond his playing days

If it is true he is he fifth player, I am deeply disappointed - and for himself is he destroying what he has built up in reputation of being a leader over the past few years?

Wes - please clarify this issue, the fans deserve it one way or another.

I think most of us don't care what they do in their private lives, but I think most people are peeved because it could of put the rest of the first team in jeopardy, could you imagine the crap on here if half the first team were down with covid!   Can't they have waited just a few more weeks, then do what the hell they like.

...it does not matter when they did it, it was wrong on a big scale!!!

This goes further than silly football players breaking rules, it is a life and death issue, the reason why this virus has been so difficult to control is that people outthere have little understanding of seriousness of the pandemic. A lot of people believe it has been made up and is a Government plot, there are a lot of misinformed, indifferent people outthere.

@UpTheLeagueFoxthe use of the word "disgraced" is very strong even for the Telegraph to run given their (and John Percy's) affiliation with the club, Percy being essentially our official spokesperson for transfer matters. Is it possible that the club themselves wanted the Telegraph to run with specifically that angle on the story to give the players (and dressing room) a right kick up the arse?

You have experience of working with people at the club behind the scenes and within the media, so wonder if that's the case? Take the timing of the announcement from the club, it was done at halftime during the game, clearly very well organised and planned in advance.

I was not being flipant, but if the players had finished their season and were out of the first team bubble, no one would have bothered too much!

Can the thread be closed now? Matter seems dealt with and the most important thing (sadly not us, the fans) is that the club and Rodgers have moved on from the incident.

Not sure what else there is to discuss :dunno:

A lot of fans will never drop this incident and will use it as a stick to beat the lads involved with any time they’re unhappy with them. Our fan base, like all fanbases, can be incredibly toxic at times. People will love the fact they’ve got an excuse to abuse the players with

That'll be the sub ed doing the title. I see reporters on twitter all the time saying "I didn't write that bit", when someone else had added a controversial heading to an article that says nothing of the short.

Everyone makes mistakes and these people are no different I am of course very disappointed in them but I will see how they react before having any lasting ill feeling. If there’s a sincere apology and when they’re on the pitch they stand out with work rate and attitude will get fans back on side I think

Headlines sell !!!

The trick is to get people to open the article & controversial headlines draw people in.

Could be a smart move by the club - even despite our history of Fireman Stan, La Manga 2, Casinogate and The Bangkok Racist Gangbang incident - making 'a house party during COVID restrictions' the new standard for bad behaviour should send a clear message just how high our standards are to be from now on.

That would usually be the case, but John Percy and Henry Winter are about as senior as you get in terms of football writers and both used the same language, hence my curiosity. Compare it to how other incidents have been reported for Grealish, Walker, etc, etc. In the case of Percy, he's been used to correct news stories such as the Tielemans transfer fee and so on.

It's just pure speculation but it seems intentional, particularly in the case of Maddison who is now second highest earner at the club I believe.

Do people really think we are the sort of club that wants the press to vilify our players?

We don’t need the press doing it, if they’ve done what’s reported in the Sun the manager can do it, and that’s where it should come from. It’s his authority they’ve tested, does him no good to go lightly and then see the press hammer them IMO.

Perez was already hate figure no.1 for many, if fans were there he'd get dogs abuse. If we don't get to the final and finish top 4, our weirdo fans we have it in for him good and proper.

Some fans will be pleased this has happened so it gives them a reason to behave in their weird and vile manner

I'm just wondering how thick you need to be to contemplate breaking the rules in this way

I'm a high profile footballer, I court publicity in all forms of media

There is no way I don't understand what the rules are

30 people there - it was inevitable word would get out

Arguably the biggest game of the season next up

The more I think about it, the more dumbfounded I am!!

This won't be forgotten for a long time

No public apology yet then?

....I do not think we are going to get one publicly!!!

As Rodgers said, it will be handled internally and that would include an internal apology to the rest of the team and the club, they really are intending to move this on as quickly and as quietly as possible.
