Maybe this will kickstart Brendan to do better here with Leicester

O'Neill flirted with the Leeds job for a bit but was a big lift when he stayed.

He might well think that but if he wants the Newcastle job it's now or never. His reputation is as a nearly man. Most of the evidence suggests he can't get a team over the finish line at this level. I can see them wanting him to get the ball rolling, but if the plan actually comes to fruition and they're genuine contenders they will look abroad for a top class manager.

Surprised its only £16m release clause

It's enough to stop a Spurs or Arsenal coming in for him and realistically paying that on top of the significant salary increase Brendan would expect to turn his head. It'd take one of the big money clubs (City or Chelsea, maybe now Newcastle).

....is this how Celtic felt!!!

...Why would he do it with the possibility of what we could potentially achieve?...

Eh? We've achieved all we ever will with Rogers. He falls into the same managerial hole every time and is not capable of resetting. If he stays, we are mid table at best from here on in. Just because he got us to 5th twice and an FA Cup doesn't lean that is our mew normal. We exploited a window of opportunity and arguably over achieved a bit. We need to move on and so does Rogers.

It's not even comparable to when Man City got took over. They were an established, top half Premier League club at the time, with a very decent squad. And it still took them a number of years before they could compete at the top of the table. Newcastle on the other hand, need to assemble a squad capable of establishing themselves in the mid table first, that will be the project for their next manager.

Total bollocks. They lost 8-1 to Middlesbrough and had players like Michael Ball in their team, they were light years away from the top. 5 years later they had Tevez, Aguero, Yaya Toure, David Silva etc. Newcastle will do exactly the same. They won't sign players to come mid table they will go for broke. Fully expect them to go for the likes of Kane, there's tons of players with less than a year on their contact, players like Rudiger, Sule, Ousmane Dembele, Kessie, who they will try to lure. Money talks.

FFP means Newcastle can’t do that their estimated over spend is £200m inc wages, that’s about 3 players of a top level

Newcastle are never going to be a top 4 team in next 5/6 years owing to FFP

just isn’t happening

See, that is a move I could completely understand and would have no issues with him taking

Yeah. I mean, you couldn't really begrudge him a move to Man City, could you?

Well, we aren’t, we are having a tough time and it’s something we have to work through. Newcastle are currently rat shit, and not going there. Having access to the 300 billion from the Saudi PIF does not mean Newcastle have it or can spend it. Money without a plan is useless, they will need to spend time to get a DoF, setting the style, then getting the manager and recruits to suit.

Brendan 6/4 today. I agree Newcastle need a lot of work - but BR may feel he has gone as far as he can with us. Let’s see what pans out.

Grumbles over recruitment? His mate is in charge of recruitment.

Did you think Celtic fans thought Leicester would be the club he would leave them for? Did you think Watford fans envisaged him leaving them for Swansea?

Yes. We're bigger and better than Celtic

So Brendan with the 7th most expensive squad finished 5th last season.

Potter with the 13th most expensive squad finished 16th.

Who is better at getting the best out of what they’ve got?

If you look at that way. Brendan should get us into top 3 according to wages he receives.

No need to be moron here. In Real world,  when the heavily paid corporate person or CEO' s receives that kind of money and not delivered a desired outcomes, they get fired.

So far Burnley, Crystal Palace, BHA and Legia Warsaw games was a huge let down and we are sitting at the bottom of the EL table.

By the way, I don't think Potter is the right person as well.

Time to bring a Champion coach..

And if he’s sacked he’d be a rich man for it.   Within 3 years they’ll be competing at the top end of the League, just like Man City were after their take over. These middle eastern owners dont mess around, for them money is no object as they want to out compete one another. Even if Rodgers doesnt go to Newcastle they will be one of the best clubs in the country within 5 yesrs.

There's absolutely no way Newcastle will be competing at the top end of the table within 3 seasons btw. We said all this with Everton who have also spent a fortune and the best they'll probably do is this season where they'll be 6th or 7th.

As I said probably be part of the settlement case that Rodgers can’t go after Leicester players. Just like what happened with Celtic.

Clubs aren’t daft they won’t want to better Newcastle unless it’s insane sums. In fact I’d wage clubs will happily sell to the existing big six at lesser sums

Obviously Youri is different cos of the contractural situation. But Fofana etc? Can’t see it

...we attempted to buy Edouard in the summer and Celtic was continually pushing up the price!!!

I find it hard to believe a contract existed, that stopped us from acquiring Celtic players.

I always had the feeling that players are reluctant to follow him to other clubs.

Youri Tielemans will go to a club near the very top, not Newcastle.

Some of you have lost your minds.

...he is very much flawed!!!

His inconsistencies will not be tolerated at the bigger clubs and in no time, he will be back in the Monaco situation.

We are just the right team for him or at least a team of our stature is the right place for him to be.

Apparently before he signed for us United came into the frame and he chose to come here.

He had either acknowledged his limitations and chose a move that would allow him to flourish without the pressure which comes from playing for a top team.

So far he has not committed to a new contract and the club has not pushed for a confirmation, which leads me to believe he will stay and the club is aware of his decision.

Newcastle would be better off going for a decent stop gap manager for 2 (or 3) years to lay the foundations then go all out for a great manager.

Appoint Lampard and give him 2/3 years, build a great recruitment team and put together a side that will begin to peak in 2025 then spend massively as they started to cook the books with sponsorship etc.

It’s going to take a while build a squad that can play a brand of football to challenge for a European spot. Get Conte  (he wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole for for a few years) in now and there’s too much for him to do.

I'm absolutely certain that no agreement like that ever existed.

It's pretty much fact that we DID bid for Mcgregor the following summer after Rodgers arrived. We wouldn't have done that had any such deal been in place.

He won't fully dismiss the link and this place will lose it's mind.

He'll say something about 'Brucey being their manager and he's fully focused on us'

...you know it is what he will say!!!

To be honest he is not going to volunteer to go, as he loses money and we will have to turf him out the door before he leaves.
