Brendan Rodgers

I’m curious. In this scenario of it “working out best for both parties”, have you factored in who we’ll get to replace Rodgers?

Have you factored in that if current form continues it could possibly leave us fighting against relegation if nothing changes?

We might not get a better manager on paper but it’s evidence is starting to mount that a fresh start is needed by all.

It’d be a silly move (I think they’d be doing us a favour as well tbh). They’re about 3 years behind where we were when he joined us in 2019.

He left Celtic for us when he we had a young talented squad worse than the sum of its parts - with huge latent potential. We had excellent 21/22 year olds in Maddison, Tielemans, Ndidi, Chilwell & Barnes. Then, established  internationals in Vardy, Maguire, Ricardo Evans & Schmeichel.

So we had an exciting, mouldable squad at a club famed for good recruitment and a decent amount of money to spend.

We had a new £100m training ground on the horizon, supportive owners and a great culture around the club.

At Newcastle, he’d have money to spend but probably less than most initially expect - FFP is still in play and there’s rules about maximum permitted wage increase too.

So they can probably spend a (generous) £100m net - but where does that get them? This is a club with some absolute dross like Clarke, Richie & Hayden playing currently.

Villa and Everton have thrown loads of money around from better positions and not exactly excelled - both clubs have better infrastructure too.

This is a very long term project and the expectation will ramp up with each season too. He’s obviously a talented coach but he probably wouldn’t be my coach of choice to lead a total rebuild of the club - especially given his track record alongside Congerton.

Already know there is some people in here now who are unhappy he is staying... weird

Not unhappy but pragmatic. If he stays he needs to turn it around and fast, if he does great.

We can’t rule out that him leaving is also a viable option which could reinvigorate a clearly disillusioned squad. He would go down as a legend for what he’s done but sometimes its time to part ways and wish each other well.

Either way, something needs to change.

Wouldn’t even be surprised if he still went regardless of what Percy says, wouldn’t want him to leave.

The annoying thing is the Newcastle fans have turned into jumped up brats over night, also Rogers is good enough for their billions but not some of the gimps on here. Clown world.

I don't want him to go but if Newcastle do want him, and I don't see why he wouldn't be a great move for them, then he's gone unfortunately.

Their 'project' simply out does ours and it's fcuking shite.

Their project is at least 2-3 years behind ours and money cannot change that. 2-3 years is roughly the lifetime of a PL manager. Would be a serious risk on his part.

Not at all unhappy if he stays. But can see him leaving one way or another in the next couple of years and would rather we let him go for £16m or however much it is rather than let things stagnate and have to pay him off.

The Newcastle job will be immensely difficult for their next manager.  It certainly isn't going to be a reputation enhancer.

Even with all the money in the world, the Newcastle squad needs a complete overhaul.  That isn't an overnight project, it will take at least four transfer windows.  Then, by the time year 3 comes around, the pressure to start challenging for top 4/trophies will be immense.

It's much more likely that their next manager will spend hundreds of millions building a squad and then be let go, ready for a truly elite level manager to come in and take them to the next level.

Not really, he’ll double his wages on a longer contract. If it fails he’ll still get a whopper of a payout and his reputation won’t take a hit because it’ll be seen as a bit of a poisoned chalice.
