Frankly, I would be most keen to see Youri as captain. Obviously, Kaspar is the natural choice, and I would totally like him as the permanent captain too, with Youri as deputy, but it would be a nice bit of graceful torch passing.

Tricky one as Kasper has done it most of the season and you risk putting his nose out of joint if he’s not made permanent captain . As much as we love him we all know he’s got a bit of an ego .

Agreed, Youri should be Captain, providing Kasper’s ego can take it.

Can’t imagine Schmeichel letting anyone else be captain!

But I’d say Youri. Assuming he’d want it - who knows?

Kaspar has basically been de facto captain for the last three years, but I suppose he hasn't been the permanent captain. None of us know if that's something that matters to him - but its pretty obvious that he sees himself as the leader.

But then Youri is an outfield player, possibly our best player, great footballing brain, never involved in any of the instagram based shenanigans (touch wood), he seems to bridge the old guard and the younger players, even though he's pretty new. I think it would say a lot about passing the torch from the title winners to the FA cup winners if he took over. Assuming he signs a new contract, of course.

But Kaspar is totally great too, an absolutely legend. No complaints.

Well put. I think offering Youri leadership increases the chance of keeping him here for a long time, he wouldn’t get that responsibility at some of the clubs that might come for him, and he is clearly suited to it. It’s something we can offer him that others maybe can’t. Kasper will be a leader on the pitch regardless of whether or not he is wearing an armband.

If anyone thinks our next permanent captain is going to be anyone other than Schmeichel then can you send over what you’ve been smoking

The post title says next captain, while the text on the OP says next vice-captain. I presume that's where the confusion stems from, it's obvious Kasper isn't giving up captaincy to anyone else. But vice captain is worth discussing

Can you edit the title?

It has to be Kasper. Led the team superbly this season, he’s a huge influence behind the scenes and has been one of the driving forces in the changing room that has led the club to where we are now. Plus he’s a club legend.

Vice captain I’d say Vardy but it would also be nice to hand it to one of the next generation who will then one day step into the captaincy role.

To be fair that is because the actual quote from Brendan is there is a decision to be made on both the captain and vice-captain (even though we all know Kasper will get captain) but interesting to see some of the other options people have put forward and why

Kasper will be club captain. I think that's abundantly clear.

Youri is already part of the club's leadership group so I imagine he'll probably take up the role as vice captain, given that Evans is a little more prone to missing games and Vardy is approaching the 'slowing down' stage of his career. Besides, Vardy will always be a super influential figure in the dressing room regardless of an 'official' captaincy status.

There's no other option that even comes close to Youri.

I would rather have a captain in the middle of the park I.e. tielemans, who clearly pulls the strings as to the way the team plays.

On paper I'm sure Kasper would be hacked off and duly so if he wasn't.

Tielemans for me as part of a new deal. People saying throw him the vice captaincy as part of a new deal but I don't think that really does much or is worth anything in any potential deal.

How important is any of this really? Genuine question. Players who motivate and push the players around them do it whether they're captain or not, right? You'd hope BR and co would draw those characteristics out of the players who have it in their personality. You'd hope they all would take responsibility for their work on the pitch. It feels like a token of authority or seniority within the team. If it's about hierarchy then presumably we've seen who it'll be: Kasper.

I don't really see any "tradition" mid-field captain tbh. Does Youri do that naturally? I haven't seen that in him. How sensible is it to give him the title in a hope he grows into it? The same with Ndidi. Hopefully in a couple of years, more experience, more embedded in the club, moving up the that hierarchy they'll be that traditional mid-field captain. Maybe they wont.

If vice captain is much of a thing they can give that to Youri, start him on that ladder.

For me, I would name all three of Vardy, Tielemans and Evans as vice-captains.

All bring different leadership qualities to the table, so it'd be remiss to not take advantage.

This is it for me.

Three leaders in different areas of the pitch even if one or two dont play.

As others have said though, even if they arent official captains or vice captains, they'll have a leadership influence anyway.

Kasper is one of the best leaders in the league, we are lucky to have him. There’s not many of his type around these days.

In a number of football autobiographies the thing that stands out the most is that teams do well when they have strong players in the dressing room with the highest of standards. The dynamic of players like Kasper / Morgan etc is one of the main reasons for our sustained success IMO.

This is also why teams like Arsenal Spurs, Man Utd are struggling at the minute- the lack of dressing room leaders they have; and by that I mean personality, Kasper isn’t afraid to rip into people if they aren’t pulling their weight. I’m dreading the day he has to  leave to be honest, hopefully he has a good few years left yet.

Kasper is the man in possession so likely to keep it. As for Vice Captain Evans would be an obvious choice but long term Youri would be a better choice.

Vardy is unlikely to play as often next season so I doubt he will be considered.

Kasper.

Rodgers sees Youri as his 'coach' on the field so he is a likely choice to be VC. And it might be something to show how much he is valued to keep him at the club.

Otherwise it'll be Vardy or Evans I think. But then you're looking at changing it again within 2-3 years anyway.

Haven't read the thread but I'd give it to Tielemans, could be integral to keeping him here long term.
