Foxestalk criteria for a new signing:

1) Is he expensive  ✔️
2) does he have an exotic sounding name ✔️
3) Does he have a tricks video ✔️
4) Is he on the bench for a club worse than us ✔️
5) can we make a song up like 12 year olds ✔️

Always thought Lookman had great potential when he first came up at Everton. Maybe Rodgers is the guy who can take him to the next level. Not as sexy as Neres but injuries were always a big question mark.

At least we'll kill two birds with one stone in a Barnes backup and another attacker. Doubt we'll buy another attacker. Can't wait for the window to end. Work with what we have.

I can usually tell immediately whether a player will do well here or not. He's got a little beard, he'll do well.

Without that beard he looks about 12.

So far we have caused more trouble down the right than the left. A combination of Pereira,Castagne and JJ ,when fit, should make us pretty well covered there. Personally I would play Iheanacho on the right side , but Albrighton rarely let's you down.

People don't actually watch the way we play though, so how can you expect them to notice that 3 of our 4 goals have come from the right so far this season :dunno:

We don't actually need an old fashioned right winger, not with the style and tactics that Rodgers sets us up with. Whether or not you agree with that is another discussion.

When we attack, we often switch to a back 3. Ricky and Barnes become our wide players, Perez tucks in with Maddison creating the space put wide.

I'm not saying this is why we're apparently signing Lookman, but if he does replace Perez, him and Maddison with free (ish) roles behind the front man could be dangerous.

Don't get me wrong, I too would like to see a good left footed, right sided attacker, because it gives us the option to switch things up, but Lookman would give us a couple of different options, just not the ones most of us want and/or were expecting

Am I right in thinking this move improves our home grown quota and finally get rid of Hamza?

No. We're fine for association-trained players. It's the 4 club-trained players we're short on.

Good player but hardly one to get too excited about. Gives us a good option for pace on the wing which other than Barnes we don’t have.

Id still like a starting right winger as well but looks unlikely.

Maybe but we need creativity and goals and we kinda needed that from the right hand side where we are limited.

I’ve never been quite sure why Barnes couldn’t play on the right. Apologies if there’s been a whole discussion on this that I’ve missed, or if there’s a well-known (to everyone but me at least) reason.

Of course he can but that’s not how we play - we like our wide man to come inside and allow the full back to use the space beyond

This is a smokescreen for the permanent signing of Aaron Lennon

At least he is predominantly a RW lol

That's enough for me! Gerrim in!!

It feels like one signing we probably wouldn’t be making if we hadn’t had to spend on Vestergaard and had been able to shift Choudhury and Praet on permanent deals earlier in the window.

He’s young, English and has shown some very good promise in the past but it still doesn’t feel like the real solution to that Mahrez sized gap that has been in our team for a few years now.

Had we qualified for Champions League this season then we’d probably have the money to have done a bit more but this is where we are whilst we’re only getting Europa League.

Three scenarios

1) Loan fee and option to buy

2) loan fee and obligation to buy

3) straight fee

I would have thought that the transfer fee in scenario 2 would be a little lower than 1) because it’s a guarantee of a sale. The loan fee could also be a bit lower on the same basis.

maybe we are playing hard ball on option 3 to try and get a good deal now if they are being difficult over option 1 which was our initial standpoint. If the fee is competitive enough then can’t believe option 3 would be a risk

Good post, Lookman can player Right, Left and Centre, adaptability during play is something Rogers likes. Gives the squad a better balance. He’s a good player but only time will tell.
