Guest SO1 Posted 30 August 2021 Posted 30 August 2021 Always thought Lookman had great potential when he first came up at Everton. Maybe Rodgers is the guy who can take him to the next level. Not as sexy as Neres but injuries were always a big question mark. At least we'll kill two birds with one stone in a Barnes backup and another attacker. Doubt we'll buy another attacker. Can't wait for the window to end. Work with what we have.

A combination of Pereira,Castagne and JJ ,when fit, should make us pretty well covered there. Personally I would play Iheanacho on the right side , but Albrighton rarely let's you down. People don't actually watch the way we play though, so how can you expect them to notice that 3 of our 4 goals have come from the right so far this season We don't actually need an old fashioned right winger, not with the style and tactics that Rodgers sets us up with. Whether or not you agree with that is another discussion. When we attack, we often switch to a back 3. Ricky and Barnes become our wide players, Perez tucks in with Maddison creating the space put wide. I'm not saying this is why we're apparently signing Lookman, but if he does replace Perez, him and Maddison with free (ish) roles behind the front man could be dangerous. Don't get me wrong, I too would like to see a good left footed, right sided attacker, because it gives us the option to switch things up, but Lookman would give us a couple of different options, just not the ones most of us want and/or were expecting Edited 30 August 2021 by Jimbo 3

LVFox Posted 30 August 2021 Posted 30 August 2021 Good player but hardly one to get too excited about. Gives us a good option for pace on the wing which other than Barnes we don’t have. Id still like a starting right winger as well but looks unlikely.

I’ve never been quite sure why Barnes couldn’t play on the right. Apologies if there’s been a whole discussion on this that I’ve missed, or if there’s a well-known (to everyone but me at least) reason.

Of course he can but that’s not how we play - we like our wide man to come inside and allow the full back to use the space beyond

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 30 August 2021 Posted 30 August 2021 It feels like one signing we probably wouldn’t be making if we hadn’t had to spend on Vestergaard and had been able to shift Choudhury and Praet on permanent deals earlier in the window. He’s young, English and has shown some very good promise in the past but it still doesn’t feel like the real solution to that Mahrez sized gap that has been in our team for a few years now. Had we qualified for Champions League this season then we’d probably have the money to have done a bit more but this is where we are whilst we’re only getting Europa League. 3

st albans fox Posted 30 August 2021 Posted 30 August 2021 Three scenarios 1) Loan fee and option to buy 2) loan fee and obligation to buy 3) straight fee I would have thought that the transfer fee in scenario 2 would be a little lower than 1) because it’s a guarantee of a sale. The loan fee could also be a bit lower on the same basis. maybe we are playing hard ball on option 3 to try and get a good deal now if they are being difficult over option 1 which was our initial standpoint. If the fee is competitive enough then can’t believe option 3 would be a risk
Pliskin Posted 30 August 2021 Posted 30 August 2021 He be fair I’m being harsh. He’s young, got some ability and will probably have a decent attitude too, so be will probably be decent.
Lcfc-1992 Posted 30 August 2021 Posted 30 August 2021 Has any fee been mentioned if it’s a permanent deal?

Gives the squad a better balance. He’s a good player but only time will tell.
Popular Post FoxyJim1987 Posted 30 August 2021 Popular Post Posted 30 August 2021 Did anyone really think after Daka Vestergaard and Soumare we were going to spunk out on a right winger. As someone alluded to, we have two right wingers and one left winger. Albrighton and Perez are not going anywhere. People hate Perez but he's not being sold is he so we are stuck with him. It's not FIFA we can't just stockpile players we have a wage budget we need to name a certain amount of players etc etc. Signing Lookman is not exciting but a no risk signing to cover for Barnes and he can okay with sides or through the middle. People on here need to get real. The big clubs stutter they sign 100m players, we can't do that so this signing fits our model. 5 1
