I'm confused at the hostility towards this transfer he was very good every time I watched Fulham last season (admittedly not loads) .

 

His numbers are good for a relegation side 4 goals and 4 assists. For context when we were fighting for relegation in 14/15 mahrez managed 4 goals and 3 assists. 

 

I know people wanted a sexy Leon Bailey type signing but Fofanas leg break put pay to that. This late in the window for a loan with an option to buy is good business. 

 

The only issue for me is he's right footed but I'm sure Rodgers has a plan.

Not a proven goal scoring right winger

 

Pros:

Cover for Barnes 

Can play on the right

 

Looked good in a poor side last season

 

Loan with a buy option leaves funds in the tank and can kickstart our window next season if he impresses

Incorrect - we are massive. We find a player we like and he turns up the next day for the exact amount we want to pay. The player, his agent and the selling club all have no say in the matter, and even if they did they would simply bow in deference.

Gray is one of those rare players whose perception is better than his actual ability.

 

Every time we had a new manager he would put "our bright young talent" straight back in the side until about a month later he'd had enough of him. It speaks volumes that Gray could never break into this side after Mahrez left despite having the likes of Albrighton, Ghezzal, Diabate and Perez to compete with for a place. Gray must have been pissed off when Barnes came back from loan and quickly overtook him as he became the player we expected Gray to become. Gray's had a great start at Everton but i fully expect him to revert to type.

 

Lookman is a much better player than Gray but is it too much to expect we get Lookman and Neres here tomorrow? Lookman is predominately a LW and there is no real alternative to Barnes.

Its been reliably reported that Lookman will be 50k a week. This underlines how much even run of the mill players get paid these days. We can pay that of course but if it had been Berardi it would have been more than double that.

Lookman can carry the ball up the pitch better than most, if not all, of our current options. 
 

He also has a decent left foot. 
 

OK, his end product and his decision making need help, but we have scouted him for a while and Red Bull’s scouts know what they’re doing, so I’m going to stay positive. 
 

I just might be a little let down that Lookman is the one after we were linked to a ridiculous Brazilian…but that’ll pass (like it does after every window).

Lookman may seem an underwhelming signing, but that is simply because he is not what many have gotten themselves into a frenzy over. He is a decent player who could do well for us if given the chance. Like them or not we have cover for the right side of midfield but nothing on the left (unless Albrighton shifts over, but then that leaves us short on the right) so in some ways this makes sense as when Barnes got injured we were forced to completely change shape.

...doesn't that makes us predictable, nullify Barnes and  the games is already won!!!

We just do not have the calibre of players to wide to make us dynamic, the inability to counter when Barnes was out was a big factor and it made the team weak. I suspect 4-2-3-1 is Rodgers prefered shape and he is using his available personnel to effect it but 4-3-3 looks a more balanced formation bar the one position that we need to fill, to complete the jigsaw

Choudhury has came through the academy. Academy players are notoriously poorer paid because they don't have bargaining leverage unless they're established first team players. When Choudhury signed his last contract he'd played 17 PL over two seasons mainly as sub. He was also probably on a few thousand a week so was in no position to demand £60k a week.

 

You can't compare Lookman's leverage to Choudhury's. If the club really did pay a squad player who came through the academy 60k a week then someone needs sacking. More likely he's on about 30k a week.

Starting to think maybe (just maybe mind) we should have rinsed Arsenal for Maddison, which might have allowed us to get a couple of players in that were higher up the list of options. Feel free to disagree.

He’s not the messiah but I think he’ll put in some shifts and come out of the season with respect from our fans.

As a back-up for Barnes, he’s a very decent option to have, I’m in full agreement with those that say he looked good in a poor Fulham side last season. All his goal/assist contributions though, came from when he played on the left. Everton tried him on the RW, ended up selling him. Leipzig have tried him on the RW, they keep getting shut of him.

 

A starting RW is the missing piece of our jigsaw, yet it doesn’t look like we’re going to rectify it. Looks like Rodgers is more than happy to stick with Perez, when we know full well that he’ll continue to contribute poorly and get subbed on 60 minutes.

 

Failing to get a starting RW could be the difference of whether we make top six.
