If we want to be up and around the top 6, you don't sign players like Lookman, you try to off load them, fortunately he's not our player, it's not a coincidence he never seems to fit in anywhere he's been, it's because he not consistent enough..

I get what you say but some players take time to settle and find stability at a club. He strengthens the squad. He isn’t the right winger we need but he can provide options in a number of positions and can make things happen. As I say depends on price.

Don’t know many wingers with his size that can hold up a ball as well as he can, any player coming off the bench is going to put in 10/10 performances when coming off the bench.

Still feel when he gets the ball, he can make a difference which is what you need in a player and for £15mil is a no brainier.

I thought in a small but significant way that he was a game changer when he came on. Back to goal, a trick or two, took the ball past a player or two (exactly what you have to do against Leeds, who go man for man) and opened spaces up

He can frustrate at times but he has made a good contribution in games like Man City, Liverpool and Leeds today.

He's not as effective on the right wing but we could do a lot worse. He's been the better of the Gray, Ghezzal, Perez alternatives.

He's not going to dislodge the likes of Barnes but he's a good squad player for sure.

.....28 games played 6 goals and 4 assists so far this season,

It's very harsh to put these numbers together without providing the context of him often having come on as a sub.

Agree with all this….but would he sign up for us if he was only going to be a squad player?

Demarai Gray - 9 goal contributions, 1809 minutes played.

Lookman - 10 goal contributions, 1731 minutes played.

Barely any difference and Lookman has much better players around him.

The 10-15 million required to sign him could be a big part of our budget in the summer. Not really worth it. Better off giving Alves or Maswanhise a place in the squad instead.

Gray also regularly starts in his strongest position where as Lookman is having to play on the opposite side to where he is best

Neither of Alves or Maswanhise are at a point where they would be suitable back up options for Barnes but also be able to do a job on the right wing as well like Lookman can be/has been for a relatively decent fee.

....I am becoming more and more sceptical about Maswanhise, in what he contributes on the pitch!!!

He starts every game on the front foot and presses the oppositions goalkeeper relentlessly. When given the opportunity he only has eyes for goal and not inclined to link up with players around him. This is how players continually fail to develop as they are not pulled up for wasting such opportunities but revered for scoring individual goals. He really is not learning anything playing this way, it is a team game but he fails to understand what is around him.

He can finish well but without the link up with players around him, he will be stuck at a level where unless a team seeks to change their game to accommodate him, he will struggle.

Sometimes he looks so awkward. And then he keeps going and going. Almost feels like he's dragging the ball around.  The bottom line is results and him and Iheanacho's contributions both led to the win. What more can I ask. We'd be nuts not to keep him.

I think we should buy but I don’t think he’s THE answer to our right winger problem over the last few years. If anything I see Lookman to more of an Albrighton replacement.

It’s an issue that he’ll get compared to Mahrez. He isn’t that, but he’s still a fine player. Looks so comfortable with the ball at his feet and progresses the play well. I’d make the deal perm if the money is right.

bang average

But an improvement on anything we've had out wide bar Barnes since Mahrez left us.

He's evidently not the answer at right wing but at €15m I could see us bringing him in as back up to Barnes and back up to the right winger we are signing in the summer.

Exactley....he improves the squad, the alternative to bringing on Lookman is to bring on Perez

...I  do not believe anyone is comparing him to Mahrez!!!

Was what we needed today. Added another attacking threat to our right, which was toothless before HT.

Needs to choose his time to keep and pass the ball better but overall was good

Would be ridiculous as Mahrez is one of the best players we have ever had. Nothing like him in his style of play either
