It's a shame the semi final will be remembered for a questionable refereeing performance. 

On a whole though simply not good enough from the players Rodgers selected. 

 

Poor performances from Lookman, Barnes, Ricardo and Dewsbury-hall first half left us struggling to create anything. 

Evans was naive all night giving away free kick after free kick despite realising early on the ref was going to blow up for the slightest of touches.

Tielemans didn't do enough to lose his man and pick the ball up in more dangerous areas.

 

Fair play to Maddison. He was the only player out their that looked a threat! He looked a class above the rest tonight.

the ref was awful but he didn’t need to be. we were useless and they scored whenever they wanted to. Had they attacked more they probably would have scored more. we just aren’t very good

Let's break this down...

 

We were outplayed. Pellegrini. Abraham and Smalling we're outstanding. They knew to play out our wing play and it looked comfortable

 

But we should have known this from the first leg when they were clearly their best players. 

 

Personally I don't see a lot we could have done tonight. Perhaps play a different defensive midfielder. But that's it.

Played ok until we went behind, smallest player marking the tallest player really Rodgers, once behind we fell into the old playing around at the back.

Kind of summed us up this season - concede feabily from a set piece, dominate the ball but don't lay a finger on the opposition and go out on a whimper.

Done by a set piece, done by the wrong system in the first half (again), done by a passive philosophy that creates little, done by a lack of fight and tenacity.

 

Roma are an upper-to-mid table Premier League side and in a second leg of a European semi final we’ve had 65% possession but not tested their keeper once.

I can't say we were poor. That kind of suggests we made loads of mistakes or totally failed to implement our game plan or something. But it wasn't even that, it was just nothing. The only thing of interest about that performance is precisely how uninteresting it was. Boring, spiritless, and uninspiring.

Shut up. Ref played for them all night. Should have had a stonewall pen, several throw ins, freekicks and corner calls completely wrong. 

 

What's the point in VAR if you can get that corner decision near the end absolutely ****ing wrong!  

 

Everytime we got any rythem the ref made sure it was disturbed by allowing consistent fouls and bad calls. 

 

 

Tough game, teams matched completely, very tactical battle in the middle of the park. Controlled large parts of the game, just couldn't find that killer pass. Once they had a goal, we were never beating the 11 man wall. 

 

 

Positives to take, but gutted to have no European football next year. Hopefully it'll give us a chance to go again next season and aim for Europa League.

I obviously wasn’t watching the West Ham game, but I know they played the majority of the game with ten men and ….

Be actually genuinely interesting to see what he says after the game. Can't really say we gave it our all or threw everything at them because we didn't. We were desperate from the moment they scored, and yet with 15 mins to go he brings Castagne on in a like for like change. The most meh performance we could ever put in in such a huge game. It was barely better than the villa performance. Very very disappointed in that. We have so many questions now. Can Vardy still do it? ( Non existent in both legs) what system do we play, how can we get out of this backwards meaningless possession shite we've resorted to since the Newcastle game. It just shows that throwing the league games instead of attacking and winning them was pointless. We could have come into this firing and confident, but we weren't. Very very big summer coming up if we want more nights like this in the near future.

11 vs 12 tonight. Referee shocking. Ricardo, Barnes, Vardy, Lookman, Tielemans all so poor. Damp squib. Such a poor performance and very hard to defend that shite. These dull performances are becoming the norm now. Great possession stats but it’s becoming boring tippy tippy for all and we’re not good enough to pass it into the opponents net. Need more shots and quality in the final third

Majority of the possession, no creativity up top, can’t defend set pieces. Something has to change.
