Totally understand your reasoning. I get the feeling Southgate continuing will only stagnate the team into the WC, almost certainly, whereas a fresh, unlikely sacking approach, might actually galvanise the team to success.

This is entirely self inflicted - if you play one in midfield (which Southgate elected to do via his substitutions), you leave yourself massively vulnerable.
