Is that the kind of injury that can ruin a career?

See James Justin, Ricardo Pereira. Just simply never been quite the same. Think whatever happens with him now there'll always be an element of what might've been and that's sad.

That's devastating :(

Caden Voice needs banning for ages.

So sad for Alves :(

If that was one of our players who used that kind of thuggery against an opposing player (i say thuggery because it wasnt in any way a tackle, and was clearly pre meditated and meant) I would want that player bombed out  of our club the next morning!

His dad is probably one of them types who shouts from the stands to break his legs or take him out whenever a more talented player dribbles or passes around his kid.

we all know people like that don’t we?

it’s attitudes that need changing at grass roots IMO.

The wolves player is 16. We have no idea what his family background is. (I take the point about youth football above but there will be exceptions).  Someone on their forum wrote that he’d never seen anything like that from him before and apparently he is viewed as a v good prospect.

I doubt wolves will bomb a strong prospect out at 16 for a moment of thuggery/madness.

the issue here (apart from the obvious one of supporting alves ) is what does the game do about incidents like this.  And it’s at all levels. How do you judge those incidents which are less clear than this one ??

I think the main thing for me is what he’s supposedly said post incident. It’s one thing having a rush of blood and making an awful tackle - it’s another thing walking around like billy big bollocks saying “He was taking the piss and had it coming”. Thug.

That’s self incriminating and typical of someone young and naive.  If there is actual evidence that he said it then the fa should be charging him.

Best case scenario is that everything calms down a bit and that lad begins to realize what he’s done and shows some remorse in a few days time. Let’s not be overreact too much and give him some time to think and reflect.

The challenge itself is evidence of it being on purpose. Absolutely no reason for the defenders foot to be at knee level and for such force to be used in that situation.

It is such an awful challenge I'd hope there are repercussions for the lad who made the challenge above and beyond the suspension

From a long line of absolute c-units is he? Shocker?

To be fair, it's some consolation that he's probably ended his own career with a challenge like that. Total liability

Looking it into yes, his dad is a loudmouth coach

I mean, Cantona got a two week prison sentence which was reduced to community service on appeal when he kicked that fan. You can press charges for assault but not sure on how it'd go between players as its not a member of the public.

He could have taken him out in so many other ways if his frustration got the better of him. He deserves a long ban, interesting to know how he feels right now. Is it what have I done? Or is it he deserved it?

Hopefully Alves comes back next season. He still has time, needs to remember that, but this is hard to come back from. At his age, keeping the motivation when injured may be difficult. Glad he got first team football just before so he knows he wants that feeling again.

Where is the evidence showing that Voice has said he's done it on purpose?

Well I can’t give you a signed confession, but the information comes from someone very close to the player.

I'm no expert but I don't think it's a career-ender any more (it used to be) but it's the type of injury that you may struggle to fully recover from. In other words, he might not be as quick as he was. I think he'll have a weakness there too.

I'm absolutely gutted for him. It's an assault really isn't it?

If he was fully grown then no. Can be alot more complicated with growth happening at the same time as healing. Hopefully he will make a full recovery though

There’s an example where a prospect’s career went downhill because of a horror challenge.

You only need to note how Hamza’s reputation was and is affected due to his awful tackle for England Under 21s

And at least his was genuinely accidental. Klopp never helped matters mind.

Think the Salah one was featured in a documentary about Liverpool winning the league. Like it was some great atrocity, not the timely professional foul it was. Fit their narrative perfectly as deflected from the Mane dive in the last minute.
