Leicester City and Bournemouth are both lining up January moves for Hungary defender Milos Kerkez, TEAMtalk can reveal.

AZ Alkmaar left-back Kerkez is regarded as one of the best young full-backs in Europe after impressing for club and country in the last 12 months.

The 19-year-joined AZ from AC Milan last January and he has quickly established himself as a big fans’ favourite with the Dutch club. Kerkez is a modern-day full-back who is equally adept at going forward as well as defending. Indeed, he has scored three goals and provided six assists in 28 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

The chase for his services is being led by Leicester, with TEAMtalk able to reveal the Foxes’ admiration. Brendan Rodgers’ options at left-back have been restricted this season following an injury to James Justin.

The unfortunate defender is likely to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles.

Indeed, they have played Luke Thomas there on occasions, while Timothy Castagne is another able to cover there. But with Justin injured, Castange has been used at right-back, leaving room for another addition.

However, Bournemouth are also keen on Kerkez and we understand they too have been keeping tabs on his services. The Cherries are prepared to back Gary O’Neil with around £40m as they look to retain their Premier League status.

As such, the Premier League duo have made regular checks on the four-times capped Hungary international. And we understand the pair are  ready to firm up their interest with offers this month.

AZ are aware of the growing interest in the Serbia-born star and would find it hard to reject a sizeable offer for the teenager.

If this passes the @Ric Flair acid test then I'm in.

Been my number one pick for LB, see my article for fosseway hub and the BSLB Podcast. Are these two bit sites like teamtalk etc picking up on this? Suddenly we are linked with Le Fee and Kerkez 😂😂😂😂

Genuine question as I haven’t heard of him -would he be an upgrade on Thomas? Both relatively inexperienced.

Given our situation, need to hit the ground running, think we need a more established LB.

I think the club think we're more attractive than we are.

As a stepping stone to bigger teams we are.

with these percentiles, is that out of everyone they have data for? or just in their respective leagues?

The FBref percentiles depend on the player and league— those percentiles are compared to other fullbacks in the “Next 8” leagues over the last 365 days. Here are his numbers compared to fullbacks in his current league over the last year:

To replace Thomas with someone the same age would be a slap in the face.  Sends a clear message to him.

Perhaps, but with JJ out for the season and Ricardo prone to breaking down we are short of options. We need depth not just now but in the future too. Full backs are one of the most important positions these days.

Bertrand showed that when older signings go wrong, they really go wrong, whereas with younger players you have more upside potential even if it goes wrong.

This guy has been impressive. Much better at attacking than Thomas but a bit suspect defensively. I could see us swapping between the two depending on who we are up against.

Thomas probably needs a season out on loan like Chilwell had with Huddersfield. He’s got talent but needs consistency. But us sticking with him now is a bit of a liability.

It does, and it’s correct. He’s not good enough. He’s not improved at all in 18 months and needs a couple of seasons on loan to play regularly. It’s not harsh, if we want to improve we need better.

Absolutely bang on. Football is a ruthless place and there should be no room for sentiment.

Thomas is steady but needs lots of game time in the championship.
