There’s life in the old dog yet, though it’s going to be very very tight. What we have in our favour I think is an appointment that will hopefully mean a lift, (unlike Forest, Everton and Leeds form), and who’ve done it before, favourable fixtures and more quality than teams around us - though that is debatable as it’s this ‘quality’ that’s got us where we are.

One of the lessons I hope Smith learnt against Man City would be to start Iheanacho, I truly think then we have a decent chance.

These next four fixtures will determine our season though imo. Wolves, Leeds, Everton and Fulham - let’s be avin’ ya!

....where are yaaa 🍺🍾🥂🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍸🍹

Our goal difference is an extra point so in theory we are only one point from safety.

How do you work that out being that you have to have the same amount of points as someone for goal difference to come in to play? We are two points from safety.

I actually think we have a better team than those around us. What we don’t have any is sort of bottle. We are so soft and can’t hold onto a lead. Do you trust us with 10 to go if we are 1-0 up against wolves? That’s the big psych barrier we need to overcome. We are the sort of side, that if we win one, we could go on a run.

Starting point: 25 points

Man City (A) - 0

Wolves (H) - 0

Leeds (A) - 0

Everton (H) - 1

Fulham (A) - 0

Liverpool (H) - 0

Newcastle (A) - 0

West Ham (H) - 3

Final points: 29

Will it be enough?  Probably not.

I must qualify my answers - this is from someone who has followed us since 1980s. This just has the feel of a few previous relegation seasons. On each occasion, there was always hope - until the mathematical death knell.

The 2001-2002 with Dave Bassett in particular springs to mind. Looking back, we went four months without a win. But it didn't feel like that, for some reason, back then. Mainly because the relative success we had under MoN in the six or so years leading up to that season. Like now, there was the "I think we have enough to stay up" mentality.

I'm not being negative. Just realistic. I think we're done.

I would argue that you are being quite negative with those predictions. We are currently averaging 0.8 points a game,  your predictions mean that not only are we going to see any improvement with The new management but things are going to get drastically worse and we are going to drop down to 0.4 points a game.

I'm always hesitant to compeltey write off a team, but Southampton seem done for. West Ham upwards I think will he fine, which leaves 2 from 4 between us, Leeds, Everton and Forest. We play 2 of the 3 other clubs in the mix, beat those and pick up odd points here and there, maybe even 35 points will be enough. It just makes those 2 games back to back in essence cup finals and I'm not sure I trust this group to find a way to win big games, as shown by us bottling the top 4 twice.

Whoever escapes the drop can consider themselves lucky that there are 3 worse teams as certainly us, Everton and Forest have been dreadful and any other season would be doomed for the drop.

Forests fixtures are horrible, I think they and Southampton are certainties. We need to win the next two to put ourselves in the survival mix and pull others back in. We can’t afford to let it be just us and Everton on the last day. If we can get above Leeds they have some really tricky last 4-5 fixtures.

This weekend is genuinely the best week we’ve had in ages. It’s the first time things feel like they’ve gone right.

i think bmouth, west h and wolves had already put themselves in a position to pull away so my eyes were firmly on the bottom 5.   if leeds lose, I feel like i’ll be firmly optimistic about our chances.

I was curious if their fans were still clinging on to hope and this was what i found on their thread

😂😂😂  i wonder if the other clubs are similarity writing us off (also funny they think bmouth will only manage 4 points)

Always interesting to see the local rivalries creeping into the thinking. No way Bournemouth are going to drop - said it earlier in the season and we're now seeing it come to the fore - they are more than capable of shithousing enough wins to stay up. A lot of very under-rated players, front-foot, high-press tactics and a manager who gives a damn.

They got six off us, of course. As did the Saints.

At least one thing is universal - worst-case scenario, we'll still be playing at least one East Midlands derby next season. Maybe two. Maybe three.  :fishing:

How on EARTH are we in a position where Bournemouth are 8 points clear and more or less going to be safe and we are 2nd bottom, there is literally no excuse anyone can offer up for this scenario.I honestly believe if any other manager was brought in a lot sooner any other manager at all we would be safe.I can't wait for Rodgers to get another job and eventually the same thing will happen and this time he wont be able to pull the wool over any of his sheeps eyes. Rodgers is a fraud shepherd.

I was watching a Glen Johnson earlier about him when Rodgers took over, and he was saying how when he went to Liverpool he was just saying the exact same that Mourinho was saying at Chelsea whilst him and Glen Johnson were there lol

When you put it like that...

Yes, I guess I am. 😂

It's partly self-defence. I can't allow myself to have hope.

Don't get me wrong, I get that a positive mindset is a huge thing and can affect outcomes. But let's face it, how I feel won't make the slightest of difference to our results. So I'm just preparing myself for the worst outcome - based on previous disappointments (and with LCFC, there are many). That way, anything else than the worst-case scenario would then be a huge high.

Just hope the players react positively and that the new coaching staff get the best out of them over the next seven games! We do play teams around us, so while it's no longer entirely in our hands, we're not entirely dead and buried yet.

Damn it. there's that hope again. Must. Not. Allow. It.

Looking at everyone else's fixtures, in particular Forest and Everton, we really ought to stay up. Wolves at home is monumental given everyone else has tricky fixtures.

If we can get a win on Saturday, We have a massive chance of getting out of it.  It'll give the players confidence and also make it feel like there is a bit of a new manager bounce.

We can get points from games following on from that up to and including Fulham.

I think if the games were played on paper we'd probably stay up comparing run-ins. So much is about character now though, and we've heaped so much pressure on ourselves by being so awful since the world cup. Worst team since the world cup on 8 points, if we'd matched the 11 that the second worse teams have then we wouldn't be in the relegation spots. We've been so bad for so long.

Wins are of course vital, particularly against those around us, but I would also love to see us turn potential losses into draws. We've drawn so few games this season and those odd points here and there really would make the difference and help build a bit of momentum over the last 7 games.

Only if we pick up points.

Being very optimistic here, but I think a result against wolves could spark a run. I’m going to stick my neck on the line and state after Man City we will go unbeaten. It’s the kind of mad thing we do.

Smiffy will be worshipped as a God if this does happen...   can I have some of what you're on?   Won't get anything from the last 3 games, and I doubt much against Wolves or Fulham.

Max 9 points in my opinion- we are still sunk thanks to Bindum and Top's dithering.
