Daka would probably be pretty handy in the Championship

I think he’d be fantastic in the Championship with the right system and management. But I expect he’ll be angling for and get a move to a top flight club somewhere in Europe, his Salzburg record and his European record for us will make him an attractive option for some and we’ll be in no position to keep his wages around when he’s one we could get a fee for.

Exactly. I still think there's a player somewhere in there. A season regaining his confidence in the Champ might do him the world of good.

Still was amazed when he scored 4 against that Russian team.....maybe the championship will be the same level and he score braces and hatricks

I do think he needs to bulk up a bit though, for either division. He's way too easily brushed off the ball.

As bad as our defence has been all season, I actually think a huge part of that, was the Rodgers style of play, i.e pissing about with it at the back, and also players like Tielemans, Soumare, N'didi etc, all being woeful at protecting our back 4 all season.

Hoping that with the midfield exodus and a final goodbye to Rodger's style, we can actually have a fairly decent back 4 next season without having to sign anyone. Ricardo, Justin, Kristiansen, Thomas, Souttar, Faes, Vestergaard, are capable under a new manager and harder working midfield to be enough in the Championship IMO.

I also think we can and will hold on to Daka and Iheanacho for 6-12 months, and they will also form a strong partnership at the lower level.

That means, we have to focus most our attention on the gaping holes in midfield. A new CM who I think should come straight in as captain, as in, be that type of player. A fighter and leader on and off the pitch. Then x2 wingers. If we get those 3 signings right, I think we will be pushing at the right end of the table at least!

Daka

Kelechi

Maddison

Tielemans

Faes

Soyuncu

Castagne

Ndidi

Barnes

Tete

Amartey

Soumare

Mendy

Are all gone (which is positive in most cases)

We may just keep Riccy P and Justin due to injuries. That leave us with Souttar, Khristiansen, KDH, Thomas and Vardy. oh and Bertrand and Vestegaard because no one is dumb enough to sign them.

It will be a new team/squad next year.

Any younger players look like they could make good squad players?

Braybrooke

Alves

Maswanhise

Marcal-Maviadua

Brunt

Wormleighton

Nelson

I think Maswanhise and Madivadua are the 2 most likely at the moment

Braybrooke and Alves I think might need a season long loan just to get back into it again

Brunt maybe, although he is 23 this year and not too sure he is good enough

Wormleighton needs a loan and we should try and get Nelson a loan in League One

Stolarczyk back out on loan as well

Iversen - already proven to be a top quality GK in the Championship and is young enough to accept another season at that level.

JJ - only recently signed a long term deal and has injury problems so will have to stay.
Ricardo - as above.

Souttar - unless he has a relegation clause and some serious admirers he will stay.
Faes - as above but I think he’s more likely to leave than Souttar as he will have made a name for himself in Europe so may just get a move, especially as he didn’t cost us a bomb. An offer of £10m would do it he was unhappy enough to kick off.

Kristansen - will stay as he’s only 19 and has 5 years left on his contract.
Luke Thomas - probably a blessing in disguise for him. He’s not a PL player so and at 20 years old will benefit from a season or two in the Championship. I don’t think he will improve enough to come back to the PL and establish himself  but I’ll happily be proven wrong.

KDH - genuinely loves the club and hasn’t been good enough to get a move away so will stay. He will be a class player in the Championship as he has already proven to be.
Soumare - not sure if he stays or goes. Same boat as Faes and Daka for me. I’m not sure I’m bothered anyway. Can be great one game and truly horrific the next. Not a PL player. Also, just never really warned to the guy.

Daka - I’m not 100% convinced that he would stay as, similarly to Faes, I think European teams will be interested. Would be great to have him as I think he’d smash the championship but I put him in the unlikely to stay column rather than the definitely gone one.
Vardy - legend, GOAT, can do what he wants but will probably stay unless Sheff Wednesday offered him a 2 year deal. He’s under contract anyway so they’d have to offer a fee. However, if he wanted to go I think we would respectfully accept or maybe even release him as we did with Kasper.

The rest of the current squad will all either move on because they’re too good for the Championship or because they’re out of contract.

As shit everything is right now, if even 80% of my list stayed, with the right manager in place, we could come back up. There are some quality players in there. Despite how bad we have been this season.

Likewise, we could go down and be down for the next 10 years. Who bloody knows, aye?

I'm pretty sure Iverson, Kristiansen, Souttar, KDH and Daka will start. The rest who knows??

...which means we might lose Vardy as he will not have the chance to add to his premiership goals!!!

Daka may want to take over the Mantle for the season and perhaps like Mahrez learn to hone his skills under less pressure. It would be interesting if we could get a drop in the price for Tete, he could do with weekly games where he is not in and out of the team and playing one or two-touch football as opposed to him taking the ball into blind alleys. This is now two teams where it seems he has not made the grade, Shaktar could well look to cut their losses.

Discussed this a few weeks ago and generally think it’ll be:

Iverson

Ricky P/Justin

Faes

Souttar

Thomas/Kristensen

Choudhury

KDH

Soumare (unless he goes back to France) as he’s on a lengthy contract

Daka

Vardy

And either Praet or Nacho. More likely Nacho as I imagine Praet to go abroad and no one coming in for Nacho.

Maddison, Barnes, Tielemans, Tete, Mendy, Castagne and Ndidi all to go in the summer

With our impending fate and doom becoming a reality, I thought i'd bring some light-hearted fun to the heartbreak.

Who do you think will be in our starting 11 for the first game of the Championship season? We're including transfers here, get creative people. Feel free to change your formations. I've gone full Mike Bassett. Oh and pick a manager too! Feel free to also add subs!

GK: Iversen

LB: Kristiansen

CB: Faes

CB: Souttar

RB: Max Aarons (Norwich transfer in)

LW: Piroe (Swansea transfer in)

CM: Dewsbury Hall

CM: Mendy (Offered new deal)

RW: Michael Antonio (crazy one - West Ham transfer in)

ST: Gyokeres (Coventry transfer in)

ST: Daka

Manager: Nigel 'Are you an Ostrich' Pearson

Was toying with the idea of Drinkwater on a pay as you play.

Love this post. Was literally just asking myself this question.

I'd go to a 4-4-2.

GK: Iverson

Left back: Justin

Centre back: Evans. (Given a contract extension)

Centre back: Faes

Right back: Ricardo

Left Winger: Barnes

Centre mid: Soumare

Centre mid: McAtee (Loan from Man City)

Right winger: Diallo (Loan from Man Utd, can play right wing, attacking mid and up front.)

Striker: Kel

Striker: Brereton. (Permanent deal and more likely to come up with us, assuming a top side doesn't poach him.

Vardy - Finishes his career with his boyhood club and scores against us.

Daka - Loan and will see if he come up, would rather he stay.

Castange - Sold to stand a chance for playing in the euros.

Kristenson/Thomas/Souttar - Benched.

Praet - Sold for a stupidly low price.

Ndidi - Unsure about this one, feel he could stay.

Maddison - Sold for 30/35m.

Vestergaard - Sold late and everybody says they're sorry it didn't work out.

Feel we'd trim the squad massively and make use of the loan market.

Tete will find another team in Europe, Vardy stays if he wants to maybe he goes Sheffield Wednesday if they get promoted, he hasn't got many years left.

I think Vardy will go to America, and we will be happy to get him off the wage bill.

Love him, but he has very little left to give, even in the Championship. He looks like he has aged 10 years this season.

Only ext I'd give Evans is pay as you play, especially if its to be believed what they say about him only playing when he feels like it

Look back to the Blackburn game in February, it's not going to be fun. If you think we're suddenly going to get a full 46 game season out of Ricardo, Evans or Justin ect. lol

Teams which have just come up - Notts Forest, Bournemouth, Fulham. All of them stacked with hungry, young determined players; everything to prove... what have we got?

Major rebuild needed; Pearson, Shakey & Walsh magnitudes. We have to rebuild the squad down there.

Some of these team have Barnes and Iheanacho. No way they're staying, they've proved they can score in the Premiership. At the very least newly promoted teams will buy them.

Soumare, Castange and Faes will be gone too. They've not performed here, but have around Europe in the past. Same maybe with Daka.

The only reason Justin and Ricky P might still be here is cause of injuries. But even then a newly promoted team might take a chance on them.

Iverson, Ward, Thomas, VK, Soutter, KDH are the only ones I'd guarantee still be here.

Exactly, championship level is high and team we had out today wouldn't have got a result out of most of them. This is what's worrying, it'd be easier to sort if we survived

One things for sure there’s no way this club will have a plan like Burnley did when they brought Kompany in who has changed the whole outlook and style of that team.

I don’t mean to nitpick as I get the intention of the question but opening day of the season falls way before deadline day and we’ll be in chaotic limbo, the side that settles after deadline day will look a little different but I’d bet we won’t get our business done early, we’ll lose big players at 5 to 11 on the deadline day too late to re-invest any of it and we may see some play a few games before leaving. It’ll look more like a pre-season line up, a case of finding a balanced 11, new, old, young, staying, going, whatever, before (hopefully) settling. We have so much to do plus a pre-season, I just don’t trust this club to be ready, they certainly weren’t last summer. Factor in 2-3 inevitable mid to long term injuries too! Fitness pending a  Braybrooke or Alves could give us something positive to put a smile on faces.

Given we don’t know what we’re doing, Choudhury and Albrighton will probably be in midfield

They'd probably, with the exception of KDH, at least show a bit more work rate and aggression here now rather than the current mob.
