Championship Starting XI - First Game Of The Season

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I say keep Iverson who we already know is good for the championship.

Keep Nacho, Vardy probably stays anyway because of his age. Likewise Ricardo due to injury record.

Then ditch the highest sellable earners and have a reset in midfield.

If we lucky, Ricardo will have a decent spell injury free, so that would be a 3rd player to run rampant.

Justin , Thomas, I believe are low wage and should be good enough, and KDH also.

Iversen in goal.

That's it. We could literally have ANY other ten players in the side next season.

And I'm not going to lie, as the years have rolled on I've paid less and less interest to the Championship and EFL in general. I have almost zero idea of who any current decent players are and for all I know Waghorn, Gallagher and Nugent are still down there earning a crust from some nearly-bankrupt sleeping giant

Is realistically what our first XI will look like. Everyone else will likely get a move.

Everyone out of contract leaves. Ricardo, Castagne, Faes, VK, N’didi, Praet, Soumare, Iheanacho and Daka all move abroad. Maddison and Barnes move to prem clubs. The only player I’m unsure on is Vardy. Either retires or gives us one last season trying to get us back up.

Leaves us with Ward, Vestergard, Albrighton, Brunt and Hamza as squad players as no one will want them. Plus a few of the u21’s stepping up.

Leaves us with around 150 million to spend and with all the wages gone we should be able to buy a very good championship side.

I'd like Nacho to stay but I think he goes with 1 year left on his contract. A Daka / Vardy combination in the championship sounds good. Possibly with Hirst returning that's not a bad set of strikers.

Midfield - use the younger players, some who are on long term injury. We have KDH, not sure about Barnes, maybe we sell him too.

Defence: Souttar and Faes if he stays, any fullbacks who can stay fit.

GKs: Same two as this season

The thing is not everyone  we think will leave will leave .It never works like that ,teams are always left with players they'd  want gone .Granted the top earners will go but some we'll just have to put up with hoping they find a bit of form in a lower league.

They can’t. Even with the reduced wages they will still be on too much for the championship. So they will have to go. Or, we gamble and hope we get promoted at the first attempt. If we don’t, we could be in trouble.

Think all this talk of big investment in players is because we’ve been away from the Championship so long you guys have forgotten how frequent loans are in the lower leagues and other players on short term 1-2 year contracts.

It’s not like the Premier League where you have played who stay at clubs for 7 or 8 years. Championship clubs regularly have 4 or 5 loanees as part of their 11 every week. Burnley had 6 loanees this season, 4 of whom start basically every week. Sheffield United also had 5 loanees including a couple of key loanees from ManCity’s U23s and only made one permanent signing this season.

That’s the reality of the Championship. You do well by getting loanees and released players from big PL clubs, we did it under Pearson with ManUtd loanees and released players from their reserves.

Praet is an interesting one. Think we would struggle to get £6-7 million for him now, with contract up next summer and barely any game time or interest from other clubs apart from Torino was it?

He has obviously disappointing in the Premier League, but hardly ever been given a decent run in the team, yet still a Belgium international.

We are losing most of our midfield this summer, with Tielemans, Mendy, Maddison, Barnes and Soumare likely on their way. I'd actually sell N'didi too, as I still (weirdly) think a team will pay £20million+ for him, based on his reputation before he went pantz! Not sure other clubs have seen the big decline we have yet!

I'd be tempted to hold on to Praet for the Championship and similar to Iheanacho, aim to give him starts every week.

I think he would have enough quality to be a decent midfielder for us in the Championship and we would barely make any money from his sale either.

We would still need an enforcer type midfielder to play alongside him and KDH of course.

Why are we selling everyone all of a sudden - I think the club will only let Maddison and Castagne leave and maybe Daka or Ian. If we want the best chance of getting promoted we can’t just sell our best assets straight away (Barnes). Also, I don’t think they’ll be much interest in players like Faes, Kristensen it’s not like they are playing amazing is it?

Sell Madders for 60mill, Castagne for 15mill, Praet 5mill. Go after some talent like Alex Scott etc but potentially we could start with a pretty decent team of the Board are strong and players happy to stay..

Vardy, Ian, Barnes (and Daka) would tear up the championship….

Ricardo / Justin

Souttar

Faes

Kristensen

Ndidi

Albrighton

You are right about the loan system. It’s interesting to see how, for example, Sheffield United seemingly linked up with Man City to take two of theirs last summer (Doyle and McAtee). I wonder if we could do similar with one of the bigger clubs. Perhaps Chelsea?

They probably owe us after we gifted them 6 points this season, top 4 place by imploding two years back and they’ve constantly pillaged us for our players.

This looks quite realistic. Possible we could keep Daka and I’m not sure VK will go so soon. Ricardo injury doubts for a move? Of course the latter two adds depth to the full back positions rather than filling any of the gaps in your starting 11!

I suppose Faes and VK could stay but I think it’ll depend on if they try and force a move away. If they’re happy to stay then great but we all know long contracts mean nothing. Ricardo again would love him to stay but could still see a club abroad taking a gamble on him.

I think these stay:

Iversen

Justin - injury record too sceptical

Ricardo - as above

Souttar - no evidence a Prem defender

Thomas -  His level

Ndidi - Needs to rediscover himself.

Praet - Nobody wants him and will shine in the Championship

KDH - As above.

Albrighton - Squad filler

Daka - Needs to start scoring again.

The rest I would let go or will go. I honestly think someone will take a punt on Vardy in like a Les Ferdinand role. Obviously not Sheffield United but I think he may want to try and get past a couple more names on the Prem goal scoring charts.

But let's remember, we arent gone yet. Stranger things have happened. We beat Liverpool at home with Ndidi and Amartey at CB last time, so not a complete write off in this round of fixtures.

I agree, they are all unknown. Think Faes will go. VK not so much because of the long contract but because it’s unusual to leave after half a season after signing on permanently. It’s not like this risk was not apparent (or was it to those around the club apparently)!

I hope Ricardo does, he deserves better after what he’s been through with all the injuries.

Like someone else said its about getting the right characters through the door, the right balance between youth and experience. I'd like a team with less of a soft underbelly, even if they are less talented. I'm not from Leicester, this reason I support Leicester is that foxes never quit spirit, I first seen from the likes of Elliott, Walsh, Taggart, Lennon and then more recently in Huth, Morgan, Schmeichel, Vardy, Fuchs, Albrighton. We need 4-6 of those for the spine of the team.

Borges on loan, I’d say besides Piroe and Gyokeres, realistic signings.

Barnes if he stays to replace Piroe and Vardy on massively reduced wages to lead the line

Gyokeres is NOT a realistic signing. Defo in the Prem next season with either Wolves or Coventry (mebee Sheff U, or possibly Middlesborough if they make it). Chaplin would be good but unlikely to fancy a move to LCFC.

Not sure Barnes would leave. Local lad, family massive city supporters and apparently has just bought a new gaffe in Quorn.

He'll be able to get to Villa's training ground easily enough from there, I imagine.

He’ll be at Forest next season if they stay up and we don’t.
