The positives are that he's been Pep's understudy for the last year and has been a City Group coach for a couple of years. He managed the Man City 23s to their first ever league win.

 

As a City Group coach they have a system set up where they all share advice and help each other out, and while he would likely no longer be a part of the official network after leaving, he would still be in contact with everyone, including Pep.

 

As for football style, he would likely set us in a style similar to Man City, but probably tweaked a bit to his preferences and based on the players we have. With the under 23s he would have experience working in such a system with players that are not at the top of their game, and should be able to transfer that over to a young championship squad that is expected to be one of the best in the league.

 

As for our rebuild, his experience in the Man City youth system helps again, as he would be able to advise on particular targets, as well as help secure us some good loans from Man City, as it would benefit them greatly to send us their prospects to play in a similar style, with a manager they know.

 

The negatives are that he has only had one proper managerial position, at Parma, where he joined at a similar stage as we are in, and he was sacked after 14 games with a 28.57% win rate. So as a relatively new manager with that disaster in his past, he is a massive, massive risk.

Maresca's assistant manager when he went to Parma hasn't worked since so I'm not sure whether that makes it likely he'd come in with him again or he'd look to a new backroom staff.

 

One whom he was joint assistant manager with at Sevilla with pretty strong experience is Nicola Caccia

I know every Manager is a risk to some degree, but Maresca must be up there as one of the riskiest on the list! 

 

I don't like the idea he doesn't have a set team already around him ready to go, or the fact he has only ever managed once and got sacked after 14 games. 

 

I think people are putting far too much weight on the fact he has been Pep's assistant for just 1 season. 

 

However, we could get Benitez in and still tank, so I guess we shall just have to wait an see, and hope we got this one right.
