The problem with Rodgers, as I saw it, was that he took his frustration with perceived 'lack of backing' and went out to the press every game of the season, telling them that our current crop of players weren't good enough, they desperately needed reinforcements - and that became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

On paper, that squad should have avoided relegation and arguably should have finished higher - but you could see the confidence had just gone through the floor. If you someone's telling you, day in and day out, that you're not good enough, you're going to start to believe it.

Was he telling the players that, day in day out??

Highly doubt it.

I could sympathise with Rodgers as the players so often looked pathetic but that does seem like something a manager should be able to change and if not, he's sacked but you're all well versed on what I think of Top and his enablers.

Felt like it was literally every pre and post match press conference where he referenced lack of reinforcements, that the current crop weren't 'good enough' and were 'trying their best' - do you think that doesn't filter through to players?

Probably complete rubbish, but:

He appears to have unparalleled self importance and belief. If this is instilled in the players over time, perhaps it helped us to a certain degree over the first 18 months - before they all completely believed their own hype. Then it got to a stage where they were so immersed in the thinking they were too good to go down that the grit and determination required to stay in the league fizzled out.

But that's just one small component. Poor signings, negativity and refusal to take accountability are but a few of Rodgers' other issues.

I think that's an important one - that translated to the players. The leadership group became an echo chamber for 'it's going to be alright'.

There's an irony in building a squad full of lovely good lads. It means you have no issues, people get on great but then when something needs to be said nothing is said. Kasper was one of the few who'd call it out.

Football fans don't like it but your squad should be full of ambition. That translates to better performances. At a club like Leicester City, if a player isn't asking for a move or a new contract after three years, you'd question their desire to succeed and become better players.

Yippee , we have a manger who actually played football at the top level and that deserves respect. Once Rodgers's tactics were found wanting , the players lost all respect in him. He , his deputy and most of his team were none players. We must not do that again. Mourinho defied that logic and Rodgers was a disciple but the Portuguese nutter is a one off. There is even some German geezer  who says he learnt to manage by playing a computer game. Give me a break.

The players hear the press conferences most of our beliefs are subconscious, an anyone that briefly went against the grain seemed to be sidelined.

Agree

Words of a players father ...Rodgers is obsessed with money and himself. Enough said?

.

Players were being morphed into mini Rodgers, and that's pretty tiny.

Our self proclaimed elite coach wanted to create a team in his own powder puff nauseating image and succeeded with many players. Those who shown they had a pair of gonads were dropped and ostracised

Throwing the owners, fans, players under a bus is desperately sickening and as low as low can get, one notch below grassing.

Dined out on players and spirit he inherited, when it came to making his own mark he fell on his perma-tan ass

.

Failed to get the Spurs job so crawled back to his safest option into the seat of the guy who was deemed better than him

Karma....He'll fall on his face

What’s ridiculous about that is that Benteke did terribly at Liverpool. I wonder how many games Firmino was sacrificed out wide and at full back to accommodate a total dud. Rodgers, stubborn? Nah…

"Called me amigo" lollol

People forget Klopp took over a poor Liverpool squad, underachieving players like this, and completely turned them around.

Rodgers negligence vs Taylors incompetence.  Rodgers wins out every time for me.  Worse than Taylor.

This is a good debate. I think it has to be Rodgers as he oversaw a much bigger decline than a side who were comfortably top half. We were comfortably top 4-6!

Seems like another Harry Redknapp type- seen as this great man manager but go beneath the surface and it is a lot different.

That is what a great PR machine does for you.

Sums Rodgers up. Puts on a nice front but it just masks a terrible person. Mad how many of players swallowed his bs.

Difference being that we were brilliant for a longer period under Rodgers. Of course the rest is history but still.

That was because of Rodgers though wasn’t it?

Yes he got a very good tune out of us for 2.5 years or so. Arguably all the more reason to make him worse than Taylor given the decline was even worse. But I take your point.

Just as we’ve had ex pros talk about Peter Taylor in recent years, I can’t wait for the likes of Vardy, Morgan, Albrighton etc to spill the beans on Rodgers.

The biggest thing that makes Rodgers worse than Taylor is that since the disastrous spell Taylor had with us he has admitted that he made mistakes and wasn't up to the job. I don't see Rodgers ever doing that it will always be someone else's fault as far as he is concerned and he will never take any responsibility.

If he proves me wrong my taking responsibility then good for him but I do t see it happening

I think the main difference being that Taylor was a decent guy and tried his best but was just woefully out of his depth. Rodgers isn't and never has been a decent guy, and is all about himself. I'm still convinced that it was sabotage on his part last season, as he didn't get his own way with transfers etc. I'm 100% convinced that Rodgers didn't give his all to turn things around and help save us. He didn't want to be here but wanted his pay out so wouldn't resign and ultimately got us relegated. Falling out with key players like Soyuncu and continuing with Ward when it was clear he was a huge problem for us, shows that he wasn't making decisions for the best of the club to help turn things around. Even now it still annoys me even taking about the vile little leprechaun!

I hope he gets booed to the rafters the day he steps back in the King Power stadium in the opposition dugout.

Speaking Spanish to Firmino whose mother tongue is Portuguese sums the cretin up. More about trying to showcase his Spanish than make his player at ease.
