It really does make you realise that going on good runs or just scraping a last minute winner or even equaliser can actually make you worse off.

Lot of if's here but if we go into the World Cup without that great run - Ward is dropped, Brendan more than likely goes and at the very least everyone at the club realises there is the immediate danger of relegation and that mentality is taken on.

Even if we don't equalise against Brentford i think he goes, Dean Smith gets the international break, and we survive.

Having said all that the fact it took until 10 games to go to do anything is the biggest example of incompetence i have ever seen from any business in my lifetime, let alone Leicester.

I think this is why I've taken little joy from the bulk of our victories over the past 18 months because all I've felt they have done is protect the failing system / manager. Particularly in 2021/22 - we were so utterly lucky to be as high as 8th based on our performances yet spawning some undeserved wins served only to screw us later down the line, just as I feared it would (and I'd have said so on here at the time as well). In a nutshell this is why there were particular games I'd have happily just thrown if it meant Rodgers got the boot. Alas, he ended up going at just about the worst possible time - too late to get anybody decent who'll make a real difference in, yet too early to have it on his CV where he deserved it.

I'd even say the Forest 4-0. That night to me is completely invalid as all it did in the long run was seal our relegation. In hindsight I take a loss there and we probably survive.

Delusional. Yes ok, after the results pre-world cup, it looked like we’d do enough to stay up. But top half lol

We were still not convincing. We played poor teams and was it Wolves where they outplayed us but we had 4 shots and scored them all? Yes it was a great shithouse smash and grab but majorly papered over the cracks. We also still looked nervous in games.

I agree with the comments that the club still seems really complacent. If we do go up, it will be luck of stumbling on Maresca if he turns us into a functioning team that any sensible judgement from the hierarchy.

I think as you go on in any line of work, you realise so many are blagging it. If you can say the right things you get a job. Very rarely because you've done a good job.

I’ve worked at a high level in IT for many years, taking it easy now, but the amount of BS artists and utter morons in real positions of influence has always been astonishing. Makes you wonder how anything gets done or how anything in the world works.

This is very worrying.  The whole thing was like watching a car crash in slow motion.  Many of us could see it (though 50% of ft thought Rodgers would sort it out).... yet it appears that no one at the club was live to the imminent threat of relegation.  Top needs to reset the board.

I don't mind this at all, what I minded was Rodgers setting the scene during last summer when he said we were set for a relegation battle.

Some will quickly point to him being right, but he caused a lot of it. The malaise and negativity was very much on him last summer.

More astonishing that so many of the media lapped it up and still do. 'He wasn't backed'

What I’ve taken from this to be fair is, if that was the mindset and message being passed on from the coaching staff, then personally I think all the lads should be given a second chance.

With an actual enthusiastic leader in charge now who will take no shit, give clear instructions and insight a lot of players could evolve/rekindle old form.

Hardly a suprise we had blokes spitting at women in the away end for holding a Brendan out banner. Club's a bit of a cult isn't it.

I think it's quite clear that you're either in or out with the club. Not much room in between.

-Rodgers incompetent.

-board incompetent for not acting early enough on Rodgers' incompetence.

-Happy clappers inside the kp incompetent for constantly backing Rodgers and the utter shit show he has presided over for the last 18 months.

-if said happy clappers had joined the minority in voicing their frustrations rather than slating the minority (who were right all along) then the board may have been forced into taking action earlier.

Bottom line, some of our "fan base" have played a part in our downfall by backing Rodgers when he deserved nothing but vitriol for the way he's acted since last summer.

Did anyone expect anything different? When our club captain (due to injury) is still saying we'll be fine in March with about 7 wins all season, they all thought the same, from Top downwards.

I still laugh about it to this day, mismanagement all across the club.

This was the final nail in our coffin. The players believing the hype that we're "too good to go down"

So many of our fans were brainwashed by Brendan. Too many couldn't bring themselves to call out his incompetence because of his previous success. Too many couldn't see the utter bull shit he spouted and believed every single word that came from his mouth. I never wanted to dislike the manager that won us our first fa Cup, but his interviews at the start of the season were appalling. The constant blaming of everyone from the board to the players to the fans was utterly disgraceful. If he'd just lost his way and was clearly trying everything possible to improve us and keep us up, then fine, he leaves a legend for the fa Cup win. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and he clearly downed tools and was waiting for his pay out rather than just doing the honourable thing and resigning if he felt so let down by the board. He's destroyed the club, helped by the people above and others within the club and has left the club a million times worse off than he found it. Puel was despised by many but he left the club in a good position in terms of playing squad when he left.

What I always found so compelling about the cult of Brendan was how he successfully managed to make people hold opinion against the hierarchy of the club despite them previously being (and now back again) supportive of KP.

Yes, I'd say that false dawn of a game at the start of October ref the 4-0 win over Forest was what most likely bought Brendan another six months - which ultimately lead to our relegation as you alluded to. Then again even if we'd lost at home to Forest that night to extend our dreadful run to 8 defeats on the bounce then seeing how slow they were to act in sacking him later on, he might still have been with us for a damaging amount of time after then too!

The xG didn't lie in 21/22, to be in denial when the results matched the performances which had been a leading indicator for so long is laughable. They should have known internally about the decline. Maybe they'd have realised they were culpable though so chose to ignore it instead. I bet the analysts were banging their heads against the wall last year.
