Definitely got some aspects of his game worthy of this league however, he's a little lightweight at the moment and sometimes he lacks conviction and belief in going forward, occasionally taking the safe option of going backwards. If he can turn that around, then a decent squad player he will be for sure.

Think I was a bit harsh on him during the game last night but the switch to the left seemed to work in his favour. Exploited the space and had a bit more room to work with and run into.

Probably didn't realise at the time his work rate was helping the team a lot and went on to get a good assist.

Perhaps needs to be a bit stronger and physical though?

I have to say I really don't get the love in. He just isn't good enough for this level at all. He struggled in the championship for us bar a few back post tap ins. Positional awareness is non-existent, he isn't quick, barely picks the right pass, doesn't tackle, has zero strength. The kicker for me, he doesn't get into one of the worst Ireland teams I've ever seen, if Ireland were a club side they would struggle in League One. That is his level. Because he has come through the academy our fans seem to be blinded by his lack of any genuine ability. Last night he was awful first half, offered nothing and squandered 2 golden chances, 2nd half was slightly better but only when he had time and space because West Ham were chasing the game.

yeah.... but OTHER than that.....

Unfortunately for him he isn't quick or skillful enough to be a Premier league winger in the true sense.

However he is good at making intelligent runs, finding space and gets himself into goal scoring positions, he does much better with that effort if its on his right foot.

I think his best position is an 8 in a Klopp like system.

Useful to have around, and be called upon occasionally but don't feel he can be a regular starter.

He's still fairly young, it's his first season at this level and importantly we now have a manager that seems to know what he's talking about who could help him develop properly.

I really do think there's a better player in there than we're seeing and he clearly works very hard which is always a positive sign. I think there's a place for him in this squad.

Honestly McAteer really reminds me of a similar profile to Albrighton. He lacks in a lot of areas but makes up for it with his work rate and determination. I honestly think McAteer set the tempo of the press multiple times last night especially in the first 10 minutes of the game.

I do believe his best position is as a wingback in a 5 where he can graft back and forth.

Full of effort and endeavour, but so far he couldn't lace Mark's Boots.......Yet..?

Both more effective on the left given their lack of ability in taking on players. Managed to get an assist vs West Ham after the switch too, and just looks more comfortable cutting inside rather than attempting to take players on the outside when on the right.

I bought he looked like he could be much improved under Ruud after Tuesday night

today he looked out of his depth again

either way, the coach needs to decide if he can trust him. I’m glad he didn’t hook him at the break because that would have dented his confidence

Don’t really rate him as a winger as he hardly takes on a player, however likes to run around a bit. I think he is played in the wrong position I would like to see his play up front I think he’s more of a threat then Daka.

I don't even know where to begin with this.

Bang average.

he’s not good enough at this level. It’s criminal to have Mavididi on the bench behind Mcateer.

Average would mean he would be good enough for this level.

Can never take on his man, not strong enough. Only good thing we can get out of him is balls in behind where he may have the pace to beat his man.

Gutting that this role is basically built for Fatawu

He carries absolutely no attacking threat. He's a championship player but works hard and is quicker than most of our forwards. Want him to do well but he's very limited at this level. I reckon he'd find a way to pass the ball back 30 yards if he were 1 on 1 with a keeper

I’d say it’s pretty obvious why

Mavididi is world class In his own head and doesn’t out anywhere near enough effort in for the side. He also makes a lot of poor decisions

cameos are all he’s ok for until he changes his mindset

Pretty obvious or just your perception?
